We have the medicine for my puppy's roundworms. He has taken one dose every 10 days for the past month and a half, like the vet told us to do. I noticed this morning that there are still very much alive worms coming out in his feces. How can I get rid of these! The vet just keeps telling me to continue giving him the medicine, but can't too much of the medicine be bad for him!? It's a white creamy liquid, and my pup seems to love the taste it seems like, but I don't want to have to give this to him forever! Please help!

Worms can be difficult to get rid of, especially if the dog keeps picking them up in the enviornment.

If they are small worms like grains of rice then they are tapeworms..these worms are passed on by fleas and also by dogs eating such things as mice, rats, rabbits and other rodents. If this is the worm you are dealing with then you will need to keep your dog flea free and make sure he doesn't eat any rodents.

If they are round worms (long spaghetti looking) then he is getting te eggs elsewhere in the enviornment particularly where other dogs & cats are.

You may also need to change wormer type and go to a more effective one since the worms may now be a bit resistant to the type you are using.

Take him to another vet for a second opinion. Sounds to me like they should be gone by now. Maybe the medicine is not the right one. Did the vet give you the medicine or was it OTC from a pet store.? It does make a difference. Without a stool sample being checked, the vet has no idea what type of parasite he is dealing with and neither do you.

This doesn't sound like any wormer I ever heard of and I'm a breeder of dogs.Ask your vet to give you some PANACUR wormer, which is given three days in a row, then repeat in two weeks. This will get rid of your pet's worms. It is also a white liquid, but it isn't given for by one dose ever 10 days.I'm sure this will get rid of your problem ,as I use this all the time on all my pets, even the pregnant ones as it is very safe.

When he gets older, perhaps he can get a srtonger medicine, like Drontal and Flagyl. Puppies can't get those, but when he is an adult he will get them if there is still a problem. For the moment, do as the doctor says or get a second opinion from a vet, maybe there is another medicine suitable for his age and his type of worms.
