What I've seen in literature is using deodorant AND shaving one's armpits may increase risk of breast cancer. It was not scientific, but the hunch of an organization of survivor spouses. Plucking axillary hair would probably be similar to shaving.

No, it does not cause cancer. Lots of people get the disease that do not pluck or wax their underarms. However, it can cause pain, a rash. damage to the skin and ingrown hairs.

Your friend is being silly and probably passing on a rumor she's heard.
Plucking the pit hairs does not cause cancer, through it will prove to be painful and I'd advise shaving or waxing.
Plucking the pit hairs will only traumatize the hair follicle and not the glands,

no. If that's the case, then you couldn't wax, either. Would bikini waxing cause ovarian cancer?
