RC = Resistor + Capacitor.
A component consists of a combination of resistors and capacitors to form a low-noise filter or high-noice filter; there are connected either in series or in parallel it depends on what kind of filter you want.

Normally you can find the RC connected in parallel with an A.C. coil like magnetic contactor. It serves as an arc-suppressor to absorb the arcing when de-energizing.
