We have an aging population - without immigrants, we would have a shortage of young workers causing real economic problems.

Immigrants bring skills that this country requires and fill skill gaps - not at immigrants are unskilled and welfare demanders.

If you were under fear of being executed - would you stay or go. When people leave in fear of death, then compassion should override any selfish attitude about scrounging.

Many countries have had there resources plundered so in a way, this is kind of repayment e.g. England has robbed gold, diamonds, coal, copper, iron, zinc, Uranium, etc from many of its former colonies.

When people come for economic advantage, then why are they so poor? When you ask yourself why, you realize that they are not complete fools or incapable - chances are that they live in a country that has been severely mismanaged by a bad government or dictatorship which is not really their fault.

In summary, people can bring diversity and prosperity but change is hard for many to handle.

--No. it shouldn't-- we pay for their ( through taxes and fees ) health care, free lunches in school, shots, and some will receive social security, all that's to the liberal democRATs- have you ever had a minority cut in line say for signing their kid up for free lunch at your school and tell you its their right because they are minority( a label gave to them by liberals )we non- minorities better start standing up for our rights or we want have any anymore-- just look around and we see our history and culture vanishing everyday because minorities call our stuff racist and the crooked politicians remove our rights and replace it the the rights of minorities and illegal aliens... the younger generation better start stepping up to the plate and take back what was stolen from the non minority ( through laws ) or you will become the minority ( the weaker species )... these comments are not racist but the truth and some just do not like hearing the truth-- to me college teachers teach liberal ways and not what is the truth , you'll see this happening when the now in control democRATS make more laws protecting illegals while removing yours-- and the raising of your taxes will go to help the illegals and minorities ( wel-fare and free health care )

How do you get legal immigrants, if not by looking at each application on its own merits? It should be looked at on a case by case basis. No all yes or all no, here.

I catch the vibe that many here are turning this issue into a referendum on how you feel about brown-skinned people.

It shouldn't. Mexico is going to take back the Southwest without firing a shot. It's already happening.

It shouldn't.
It is one thing for them to come here and get jobs. But they have no insurance. When they get hurt or have children WE have to pay for it. The child gets put on Medicaid, then gets AFDC, Food Stamps. They obtain all of this 'free' government money and benefits and WE the hardworking, tax paying Americans have to pay for it.
