i'm a college freshman, and this is actually the first time this has happened to me, so bear with me.

there's a girl in one of my classes that i like a great deal. we get along well, and she thinks i'm a really really nice guy; also, she seems quite comfortable around me. how do i approach her? i have no idea how she feels about me, but i think it's more in a friends context. did i screw this up already? how can i express my interest without destroying a friendship? should i express my interest at all??

You sound lovely, and you've already made a good start by actually talking to her. I couldn't even do this to a guy I really liked, well done:). You haven't wreaked anything, she likes you to start with, so she will be really flattered that you like her in that way, believe me most girls are. If worst comes too worst she will say no, but I'm sure she'll be very nice about it as she does care about your feelings, and your friendship won't be destroyed. It doesn't matter how you say it, but you have to do it, by standing back you could miss out on her, she will find someone else, and how would this make you feel, don't let it happen, you can do it :)

Girls do have an extra ordinary power to read the thoughts of guys. She must be having some idea about it. So you have to express your idea to her. Shall I tell you something based on real experience? Give her small frequent gifts. Give her a card meant for some one more than a friend and later call her that I am sorry (?) that card's language is little serious and see her reactions.

You'll never know how she feels if you don't try. I suggest getting her number asking her to study-buddy, then ask her lunch/coffee a few times, just hang out in general...then take her to dinner and tell her...In the most "no-pressure" way possible. If you're a decent guy she most likely feels the same way, if not? hey whatever at least you tried.

It all takes courage and can be kinda scary, but would you rather sit around wondering what if?

I think your best approach would be to ask her to join you for a cup of coffee maybe to discuss one of your classes. If all goes well, then after coffee, say something like, "You know, I really enjoyed your company, that was fun. What say we do that again sometime soon, perhaps over dinner this time?" If she really likes you, she'll jump at the chance and if she just wants to be friends then that's about the time she'll probably say it. Best of luck!

just go ask her out. the worst thing that can happen is she can say no. if she does say no and never talks to you again then oh well.............life goes on. Plenty more pebbles on the beach
