It doesn't, but it does most of the time because that side is heavier and from the height you usually knock it it is more likely to rotate and land butter-side down.

This is only due to chance. However, it seems that there is a greater chance of it landing butter side down due to the total amountof mass on each side of the toast. As the butter sided will be heavier it is therefore more likely to land on the butter side.

Becuz it's one of those Murphy's law things - "if something can go wrong, it probably will" when toast falls - the same thing happens if you butter a plain piece of bread - seriously though, i think it's really becuz the buttered side weighs more than the unbuttered side, u know what i mean??

There is a little known fact about butter and floor wax. They are both magnetic materials. So when you drop buttered bread in the kitchen it's a simple law of magnetic attraction. When you drop it anywhere else it's like tossing a coin; you have a 50/50 chance.

It may be because it is heavier, but I always suspected it was bad luck in my case. Often... DRAT on the floor, or half on my floor, half on my newly polished shoes, or on a table top. Never on top of the egg, or at least a plate.
Does that mean, if I ever decide to listen to some woman and take a leap off a third floor balcony that if I butter my bum I will not land on my head?

have you tried buttering your toast on the opposite side?
if this still doesn't work, then you'll just have to give up, and stop dropping your toast... maybe try something new, like eating it?

Because you have spread butter on one side so it is more heavy on the buttered side so it gets turned by gravity until *SPLAT!*
