I always train my puppy/dog to go outside with bells. I tie two 'jingle' bells to a string and tie the string to the door knob of the door that leads to outside. Make sure the string is low enough for puppy to reach it. EVERY single time you take puppy outside, ring the bells like crazy! Eventually, puppy will take the string in his/her mouth and ring the bells when he/she wants to go outside. Be careful though - mine have always turned this into a play thing after a while - ringing it just to go outside. If this happens, you have to still go out, but ensure puppy goes for a pee/poo. Eventually, you can take the string/bells away and puppy will know where to go!
You also have to get yourself on a schedule - each morning, every time puppy eats, wakes up ... Other people have covered the schedule thing!
Good Luck.

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://bitly.im/aMQRV
A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

Puppys will want to go to the loo about 1/2 an hour after they eat. About half an hour after they wake up and again after a bit of playing. So, watch you new fur baby and you will see the pattern. The pup will stop what it's doing. Maybe look around and start sniffing......it's getting ready to pee or poop! Grab it and place it on some newspaper or on a tray....what ever your using as it's toilet. Tell it a command....your choice..."Toilet" "Go potty!" what ever you decide.....when it does its business...praise it! "Good dog! Good girl / boy!" Used a high pitched excited voice. The dog will quickly recognise your tone and when ever it does good use praise.
When it does bad....use a deep voice.....really growl the word out "No!" "Arrrggghhh!" "Bad!"
Dogs are pack animals and want the pack to be happy with it.They use their voice to growl disapproval or yap when happy. You don't need to hit a dog to train it. Your tone of voice is enough.
Check out some dog training sites for"Positive Re-enforcement Training"
As for licking, they will grow out of it or settle down with time. They lick each other as a form of bonding so give it time and it should settle. If it nips you, yelp loudly as if in great pain! And growl "No" The pups learn to be gentle with each other cause if one nips too hard the other will yelp loudly and stop playing. So they quickly learn to be gentle or the play stops! And they don't want that!

What I did to train my dog when he was little was anytime I was there and caught him toodling inside I would shout no sternly and pick him up and take him out side. Once outside, I would place him on the ground to sniff and what have you. If they potty outside praise them a bunch and say "good dog, good potty!"...they seem to love this and pick up on it nicely. Also, for those times when you can't be there I would try training pads. All you do is instead of taking them outside every time they have an accident, say no and take them to the training pad. Make her stand on the pad for like 30seconds to a minute....just kinda hold her there not in a mean way but just stern. Don't let her bite the pad or think of it as a toy or she won't potty there. I know it isn't a long term solution but it helps alot if you work long hours or if your pup potties often. Also, place a piece of her mess on the pad to increase the effectiveness and the speed to which she will realize where it's okay to go. This is easy because just taking her outside ...in her mind she can't get to the outside when you're not home so she has no choice and will go whereever... but the pads give her a plan b. The goal is to start off with the pads scattered aboutthe house in her favorite potty places. Once she starts going on them more and more regularly (took my dog a week or 2) start slowly moving the pads toward the front door. This will link in her mind the outside part of it all. Anyways...this really works but so does crate training I hear... I never could standto lock my baby in a cage though... and if your dog develops seperation anxiety, that is always due to lack of exercise. Even if you walk your dog several times a day it may not be enough for a high energy breed or personality. Try running or jogging with them andplaying fetch to drain theenergy. Think of it like this, a tired dog is too sleepy and worn out to be tearing up your shoes(which should not be accesible to the pup anyways) or furniture...whereas a hyper dog who is fullly awake and just buzzing around the house with nothing to do will be very bored and active..not a good combo especially with a puppy that has no idea of human life yet really.
Did you say the pup is a licker? LOL I can relate when Kurt was young (he's 7 now and the calmest sweetest animal ever). You don't want to get rid of the sweetness but just the obsessive need to lick too much right? Well, obviously don't pet her when she starts licking too much... say no and stand up and turn your back to her. Stand there a minute kind of looking at the ceiling(also workswhen they jumpon you) until she settles down and is quiet. Pet her if she stays calm... but dont use a high pitched happy voice cuz that will make her hyper as heck. You can also try say shhhhhh very stern and kind of touch her quickly and firmly with 2 fingers on the neck if she is more persistant. Don't hurt her just giveher the message of I don't want you to do that and I'm your mom so listen to me ya know? Back to the potty situation... when you take her outside...always take her to the same few places in the yard...this will designate them in her mind as her potty spots. When she starts connecting it all together in her mind she will know when you take her here that she should potty quickly as opposed to taking her for long leisurely walks. Well good luck and i really hope this helps you. And be sure to let your dog know you are the boss and not her or you could have an aggressive, or fearful adult dog ina few years. Be sure to socialize(take her around to meet and be with) lots ofdifferent people and animals. If you don't she will learn to not like or trust people and animals and may bite someone. Also do a websearch on Cesar Millan The Dog Whisperer, this man is the most knowlegdable dog phsycologist I have ever heard of...he hasa tv show on national geographic channel. Peace and good luck!

if he pees or poops you should watch his every move and if he starts to sqaut down, tell him no and take him outside . if you live in a apartment, it is a bad place for a dog to live in. you can also take obedience class to learn how to do tricks and learn new stuff like heeling,shake,sit,down,rollover...and so many more. all dogs are lickers. they can't stop it . it means they love you and you should not take that away. when they get older, they will slow down on the licking. To me it feels good when they lick your feet!

i would remoned that you buy your dog potty pads, you can get them at wal-mart and when the dog is sniffing around then command her to go to the pad! Haveing a leach on her all the time is a great way to take her to the pad, so she/ he can do thier bussniess! YOu can also watch out for her when she is sniffing around, and then taking her outside, this way she'll see that every time she needed to go it was outside! After a while, she will let you know!

newspaper by the door, keep pointing him to it to do his "Duty", then start opening the door to let him out to do it, This is the most important thing that I tell every new dog owner so listen up !
"get a dog tag made ASAP, with your name address and telephone # on it and put it on the dog' VERY IMPORTANT that this be done IMMEDIATELY", and put on the dog.

You have to take him on very frequent walks, like every 2 hours, until he does it outside, so that he gets used to that.
