What a question! First I assume that you mean all religions and that you mean the "sheep" as well as the leaders. OK - so the "sheep" by virtual definition are both brainwashed and mostly braindead - meaning that they are opposed to any original thought on their own part. The leaders are of two classes, those who are still praticing "original thought" and those who blindly follow their own religious dogma - word for word. All my comments are, of course my opinion. Here is what I believe:-
1) There is a God. No scientific knowledge has yet explained the start of the universe - something from nothing. All science is doing is exploring and explaining life but all within natures rules - the point is Who made the rules?
2) Religeon is man made. Each started by "clever" and well motivated people who were themselves motivate to relieve the uncertainties in life to less gifted people. They established "rules" and "facts" in life therby alleviating the need of original thought in the simpler folk.
3) Unfortunately control of these religeons did not and does not always remain with these "gifted" people. Witness the fact that most of the world's problems are related to religeous bigotry. Logically - how can the leaders of any religeon possibly think that there "way" is the only "way" when so many brilliant people in other religions think otherwise. A real "catch 22".
So, in my opinion the simple answer to your question is - VERY!

Religion is just another belief system. Calling the religious community "brainwashed" shows what you know of thinking processes. Stop and think about it for a second: We are all "brainwashed" to a certain degree. Ever since we are born, we are constantly taught what to believe. We are taught how to read, write, solve equations, and investigate our surroundings. Most of the knowledge we have acquired were put there by someone else.
Are you then talking about the fact that religious people hold on to their belief, even with little evidence? Even as a scientific person, I still adhere to the code that I believe in science, which may or may not be true. Science has a lot of principles that are based on abstract thoughts. I was taught that the speed of light is 299,792.458 km/s. I believe it. And I don't even know how they got that number. If you also think about it, there have been numerous theories in science which have over the course of the years, been proven wrong. Could I be believing in something so utterly stupid along the lines of "the world is flat?" Maybe. Does that mean I'm brainwashed too? Sure, I guess.

Actually, I would consider the NON religious community either brainwashed or braindead. They tend to folloew the majority of the world and don't have the courage to be one of the few that follow Christ

Brainwashed to varying degrees, but all religions require faith, that hole, in the otherwise-reasonable mind, that corrupts reasoning and supplies justification for and entrenchment of any incumbent belief system.
This has unfortunate effects, e.g. embryos not being harvested for stem cells because they are little, single-celled people. Please!

Jesus Christ is my Personal Savior, if you want to call that brainwashed, you go right ahead, but at least I know Jesus, something you need to know.
