Hi,
I totally know where you're coming from. I struggled with really, really bad acne about 2 years ago. Intially I tried tetra-cyclin and retin-a. However, my skin got freakishly dry and I started getting a weird rash on my face.
I quickly stopped taking them and tried Proactive. That sure was a waste of money. I finally started showering directly after the gym and found that this helped tremendously. I also tried a free product I got on the net called Beautiful Skin. Believe it or not, it worked way better than the prescription stuff! I only paid $4.95 for shipping for a month supply. I re-ordered and I use it to make sure I don't get back my zits. It also has tea tree oil which feels really good on my skin.
Here's the link if you want to get it, I think it's the best thing I've ever bought for the price $4.95

Good Luck!

May be, healthy living and good habits and lots of luck can help some.
Anti-biotic are given in rear case to prevent infection (low dose prolong treatment). But doctor are very reluctant to use this, the side effects and build up of the immunity to the bacteria is the main reason.

Pimples

There are many reasons for it.
To name a few:
1.Hormonal imbalance
2.Infected hair follicle.
3.Infected oil sack.
If a person is lucky it will be a painful bump and it will go away after few days.
In many cases it develops in to an infectious hair boil. At the height of the infection it has ugly looks, puss flowing and it is very painful.
Ultimately skin breaks and leave dent or a hole on the facial surface.
The dent is cause because the bacteria eat up the cologne (baby fat that gives glow to the skin).

pimples form due to dirt accumulating in pores of sebaceous glands. also in people who have excess sebaceous secretions.
washing your face with a separate soap often with a bit of moisturizer- "dove", washing it twicw a day. using face peel often helps.
if acne recurs - tretinoin is a good ointment. with avoiding this only during pregnancy.
donot touch, rub or pinch the pimple as it will leave dark marks

Wash your face often with soap and water, always try to remember to keep your fingers off your face. Fingers may have sweat and dirt, and will block pores in your face
