Many countries have people who speak English for the benefit of tourists. Emigrants need to learn the language of the country they plan to live in. You should have some skills or a trade that will lead you to employment. Find out where other Nationals of your home country have settled. Having other emigrants from home will help you get started where ever you locate. Find some one who has made the trip for a pen pal on the Internet to help you integrate into your new society.

The lives of the American people are probably not all that different than what you see in your country.

It's true, it would be to your advantage to be able to speak English fluently.

Choosing where to live is going to be an issue. If you want to blend into society living in a metropolitan area may be your best choice. In my opinion, the disadvantage of living in a metropolitan area is you will lose your individuality and blend in to the point that you almost become invisible. Life in the big cities is fast paced where life in the more rural areas moves at a much slower pace and is more relaxing. There will be less options to choose from in a more rural area but in my opinion, the quality of life advantage in a slower paced society far outweighs the options that you may give up by living in a city such as NYC, LA, Chicago and so on. Climate is also going to be a deciding factor. Do you want to experience four different seasons or do you want to live in an area where you only get hot weather and hotter weather?

Don't expect to come to America and immediately start living the "American Dream". That only happens in the movies.

The majority of Americans will welcome you but in todays world you will definitely come across Americans that are going to be suspicious of any foreigner. That is just a sign of the times and I would think you could understand why.

The American way of life is a good life. If you want to succeed you will but it isn't going to be handed to you.
