it is completly unrealistic to say that you shouldnt leave your dog during the day. you people, why dont you go to work? if your well enough to take a dog for long walks a couple of times a day then why the hell arnt you working. ill tell you why, becourse you know you can get away with sitting on your fat a r s e s preaching to other people about what is right and wrong wile you wait for your benifit check to drop though the door. if you cannot support yourself by going to work how can you afford the finacial comittment that a dog will need. no doubt i will get lots of thumbs down for this, probably becourse most the people who agree with me are out at work!!!!!!!!! this is not a qeastion as such just somthing that keeps coming up and it really gets on my nerves.

If I didn't work full time I wouldn't be able to afford to look after my dog. He's happy and well cared for, I give him long walks every evening and we have weekends and holiday time.

It's true that most dogs don't cope with being left at home all day, but some do. Thankfully, mine is one that does.

If there was a blanket ban on full-time workers owning dogs, there's be a lot less dog owners.

Rose Merrick - What grounds have you for reporting romore? Having a point of view that is different to yours? Harassment is a reportable offence - should we report you too? (for info - I haven't)

For information, in the last few weeks I have spoken to staff at 2 different (major) animal rescues who have said that they would be willing to rehome a dog to me (both me and my wife work full-time) if the right dog was available. Whilst it's not ideal, some dogs CAN COPE with being left. I'm not going to name the rescues - I don't want any of the animosity directed at said rescue establishments.

As for the question, "what's the point of having a dog if you're not going to be around for it?" FULL TIME WORK DOES NOT MEAN WORKING 24-7! It means around 40hrs per week. As a full-time worker, I get to spend as much time with my dog as I do with the rest of my family!!!

It is NOT completely unrealistic and I agree with you to a certain extent.

I work from 8-4:30 5 days a week.I own 2 german shepherds.

I get up at 4a.m. every day and do what I have to do to ready myself and everyone else for their day.By 6a.m.,me and my dogs are at the park regardless of the weather and they chase a laser light until it's light enough to see where we're going. Then we hit the trails and they have a blast running thru the brush smelling where the deer have laid up overnight.Occasionally they flush one out of the brush and get to chase after it.
By 7a.m. we're back home and my dogs get a drink and then go back outside while I finish getting ready for work.By 7:30 when I leave they a 4 hour nap.
Sleeping dogs don't destroy anything and they don't miss me.

Parks are all open at 6 a.m.And dog training areas can be used 24 hrs a day.Cops will look the other way when they see what you're doing there.I know because they've stopped to check us out.People will call to report a red light in the field as they drive by at 90 miles an hour on their way to work.If people would spend a little more time with their dogs and a little less time preaching to others maybe me and my boys would'nt be the only ones at the park that early .Altho we enjoy the peacefulness they'd enjoy having other playmates.
And before you go bashing people like you did here again try to remember there are alot of folks out there who have already put their time in and are retired now. There are also folks who CAN'T work thru no fault of their own.And the people who are telling you that you should'nt leave your dog all day while you work are probably annoyed with you because your dog is annoying them while you're gone.
If you do as I do EVERY DAY.And fall into bed exhausted at 8:30 p.m.NO ONE would make comments like those that get on your nerves.

What about the blind most of them have dogs they cant work cos they cant see i wouldnt call them lazy would you?
Some people who work come home and havent got time to take there dogs for walks and dont get much love cos there never there so there would be no point in havin a dog.I know there are people who work and always spoil there dogs (some who havent got kids)so they treat there dogs like children which is nice but some go to far.I do agree with u with people who sit on there ar*es allday and cant be bothered to work while we pay taxes while they wait for there giros to come through the door.

Get your facts straight before you accuse.
I have 3 dogs, I work part time and AM NOT ON benefits!!!
I WALK MY DOGS AND I WORK!!!!
It IS cruel to leave a dog all day, read previous responses to this type of question, you obviously leave a dog/s all day, the fact you are getting het up about it shouts out that you are not entirely happy with the situation so therefore are trying hard to justify it!!! and blaming others into the bargain!!
What I can't understand is this, Why would anyone get a dog and pay for someone else to look after it? why get one in the first place? I couldn't do that to my dogs as they are my responsibilty not a dog sitters!!!

no dog should be left all day on there own its not fair to the animal if you are out working all day and you go to an animal shelter to get a dog they want let you have one so why is that then folk don't have to be sat on there *** all day and there are sick people out there that have dogs to keep them company who are you to judge any one i suppose if you had a child you would go and leave that child alone in the house for 8 to10 hours a day no you wouldn't well dogs are like kids they need looking after and if you are out working all day then how can you care for them and instead of spending money on dog care why don't you get some evening classes and sort out your spelling its not good and take a chill pill you need one

It is getting everybody (working) mad. There are a lot of problem with this country and it will getting worse. The term of disability sometimes are misleading. I saw a guy in tele got benefit for look after his wife which was there and look healthy -could walk and jumping up and down at time. Other guy has 3 ex wife, a wife and a girlfriend at the same time and 10 children, ask the council for 5 bedroom house so that he can be with all his children when they visit, off course he already got all the benefit from the government as. And many single moms (by choise), having 2,3,4,5 children every single one from different man, not working, got 3-4-5 bedroom house, full benefit. How many of us has to work to cover all these people ( I gather about 1.2 millions on benefits) before the tax can go to NHS, School etc. Any financial director will be sacked if the company in huge deficit, but some people just cannot be touch, he can spend whatever he wants with other people money.

i can understand where ur coming from ur perspective, because it is ur tax dollars that go to support people that do stay at home, that do receive that "benefit check ", and it take some irresponsible idiot to give those that do live off benefits a bad name as u so claim sitting around on their "fat a r s e s" but not every one is like that u do get those that take advantage, but like someone had said before what bout the retired, stay at home mums, students, disabled and those that find it hard to get a job cos there not given the chance they deserve? there are countless numbers of people that are on the benefit for a valid reason, who are you to say otherwise. As i said it takes one irresponsible idiot and everyone that's dependent on the system get looks down upon...

I'm not giving you a Biased opinion as i work and go to uni...

ok just to add i didn't direct the "irresponsible idiot" thing at you i meant as in some who takes advantage of the system and leads people to think that all the people on the benefit are taking advantage and sitting around all day on their "fat a r s e s"
sorry if i seemed misleading was just trying to make a valid point

What gives you the right to assume why other people are at home ??? How about people that are retired, or mums that stay home and are supported by a hardworking husband, people who work night shifts so there is someone home all the time if the partner works days, people with au pairs, people that work from home - the list is endless. Why not think about what you're saying before preaching about something you have no idea about. Not everyone in this world is a fat **** ponce !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There were a lot of people who had pets & were working before, some through no fault of their own ended up without their livelihood & are considered in some" Employees" eyes over the hill for working again.I do not have a pet, sometimes I wish I did have but, my concious (spell checker not working!) tells me a job is more important than a pet.
