I think that you are referring to Christian sign of the cross, the fingertips touch the forehead then the heart area and then left and right shoulders and finish with the palms of the hands joined together.
a prayer is spoken while doing these actions as an invocation and in honour of the Holy Trinity which goes, I n the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit ,Amen.
jesus Himself did not perform these prayers.
another prayer that you may be referring to is called the Jesus prayer and it says, Lord Jesus Christ Son of God Savior, have mercy on me a sinner, amen.

Catholics pray by crossing their chest with the sign of the cross. Since Jesus prayed before he was crucified on the cross he most likely held up his hands to pray.

(John 17:3-5) This means everlasting life, their taking in knowledge of you, the only true God, and of the one whom you sent forth, Jesus Christ. 4 I have glorified you on the earth, having finished the work you have given me to do. 5 So now you, Father, glorify me alongside yourself with the glory that I had alongside you before the world was. A very clear scripture separating Jesus from his heavenly Father, Jehovah [ Exodus 6;3] Jehovah sent Jesus forth. What many do not know is that Jesus had a very long pre-human existence alongside his Father in heaven. Proverbs 8; 22-31. Jesus had glory alongside his Father. And because Jesus was Jehovah's very first creation, Jesus was in existence before even the universe or the earth.

I doubt that Jesus did that. Some people feel a connection to Jesus when they cross themselves...some don't.
I don't think God is really worried about it.....

In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen. It is our connection to Jesus for He died on the cross because of my sins.
