Wow it's nice to know so many people love cats but don't seem to understand their psychology. Cats are animals that live in a pack. They find protection from the other members. The cat considers you a member of her pack and that's why she wants to sleep close to you. So she can watch out for you and you can watch out for her! Domesticated animals still hold on to a lot of their instincts. As far as why she follows you upstairs, I'm assuming that's where your bed is and she knows where you sleep. This is also why dogs will also try to sleep in their owners beds, whether it's allowed or not!

Cats are social animals and they think they are part of the family so why shouldn't they sleep upstairs with you. You sleep in a bed so why not them? They are also thinking that they are protecting you from harm if they are there with you.

I can think of two reasons. Cats are affectionate creatures even though most people believe otherwise, so your cat just wants to be with you. Cats are also well known for looking out for their own comfort, so it may have decided that your bed is the best place to sleep.

It varies from one to another, but most cats consider their owners as part of their colony and will want to curl up w their 'family'. It's affection and instinct. Each cat has it's own idiocyncracies though... my daughter's cat insists on his own glass of ice water at bedside, and wants her to take a sip from his before he will drink from it. If she brings only one glass, he will pull it over on top of her pillow. If she brings 2 but doesn't sip from his also... he will dump that also. Cats love routine in their life.... she calls out that it's bedtime and he runs to the stairs and poises to 'race' her to bed. The second her foot touches the step-he runs up to bed. If she doesn't follow- he comes down ywling and looking for her!

Cos not only does he/she love you, but all cats given the chance would sleep on their owner's bed.

Probably the same reason my cats do, they like you and they want to be as close as possible to the one who feeds them. Just wait until you have someone breaking into your house and your cat...yes, your cat...wakes you up to warn you about it. Mine did just that a few years ago...He probably saved my life. I was able to sneak out a window and call the police who came and caught them red handed and they had a gun. I could have been shot.

God bless our pets!

Because you cat likes you. If it didn't, it wouldn't go anywhere near you. Be grateful your cat sleeps on you bed and not on you.
