That depends on what kind of pain your having. If its caused from swelling or inflammation then and product with ibuprofen would work better. It there's no swelling then an acetaminophen product would work fine. If your pain is caused by some kind of nerve damage other than inflammation then neither of these medication are going to help much. Hope this helps

If you have pain secondary to inflammation or swelling then ibuprofen (Motrin) or naprosyn (Alleve) is a great choice.
Pain from a fever - acetaminophen works the best, but it doesn't help as much with inflammation
For longer acting pain relief naprosyn (Alleve) tends to last longer than ibuprofen.
However, with all non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), take them with some sort of food as they will affect your stomach. You will also want to make sure that there will be other side effects if you are taking other medications, have high blood pressure, or other problems. If you are not sure, ask the pharmacist. Most are willing to answer your questions. Another consideration is cost and ibuprofen is usually cheaper than naprosyn. You will need to be aware of any possible side effects from which ever drug you do choose.

Labor doesnt hurt. Its like a bad period. Delivery hurts, but only for about 2 minutes. If you want a pain killer for that, that will stop the pain and still leave you with all your functions and birthing options get a spinal. You can get up and walk around, have the urge to push, and still do water birth if you want. Narcotics work well during labor and transition if you're just too sensitive to pain to wait until you can get a spinal, but avoid demerol, it fogs your mind so you dont remember anything, and you WILL want to remember the birth and labor of your child. Epidurals keep you from moving about, and you must give birth on your back, and in just about all cases you lose the urge to push, or the feeling of pushing hard enough. This can lead to fetal distress. You avoid this with a spinal morphine. The only risk is the same as a epidural procedure, the risk of ingury from the needles. But with a spinal its a one time dose, needle is in and out, unlike an epi where the tube is left in place for a drip. But like I said, labor itself is not painful, its like a bad period. Tansition is a mofo. Delivery hurts for a few pushes and then all the pain is over.

Be advised that all medicines work differently on different people. The fastest to work are the powders, sublingual medicines, then liquids/suspensions, and finally, tablets/pills.
I'm a fan of motrin myself.
