Yes they do, speaking from experience. I can only speak for myself, but there are many things that happen along the way.
As the ex-wife of a LEO I can tell you that he changed. His heart hardened along the way. Instead of talking to me about the things he saw and dealt with, he kept it inside-which led to anger that was not released. Over the years it builds and builds, often causing distance between spouses. He didn't want to 'burden' me with the things that bothered him. In the end, he turned to a 'friend' and it led to other things.
Another reason is that some women have a thing for a man in uniform. Badge_Bunnies is what they're often referred to. So they're flirty and often have only one objective- to sleep with a man in uniform.
The bottom line? Don't put the job before your family. That's the key. Keeping work at work is often difficult, but if you're having a hard time with something (murder, suicide, seeing a child die, etc) you'll feel better telling your wife and she will be more understanding of your moods.
Good Luck to you! I'll pray for your safety.

Police officers work a lot of hours, and the higher you get, the more you're away from your family. That does tend to lead to some marital strife. It's the same with anyone who works a lot..police, firefighters, lawyers...

Whether you have marital problems on the job as a police officer, depends on how emotionall stable you both are, and how committed you are to each other. Being a policeman doesn't equated with an automatic divorce down the road.

Yes. I am currently a Criminal Justice major. Over the years I have read up on articles that the occupation of an office is very stressfull. Many officers bring the emotional bag back home. It is important to have a good support system @ home, maintain good health, and seek additonal support from co-workers. See how they handle it. Best of luck!

yes, they have a high divorce and suicide rate. They have a hard time adjusting to life outside of being vigilante 24/7.
