If aural Hematoma is left to heal by itself, will it damage my dog's ear?

My vet was out the day my dog got one, and the vet down the street charged me 500 dollars to do emergency surgery on it. She has been fine since, and my vet said that is really was an emergency. She has been fine since. It was huge though, and popped up in a day.
