The nation's citizen soldiers, already strained by long tours in Iraq will be tapped again under new plans being developed by the Pentagon. And, defense officials are adjusting their policy that limits the deployment of reserves in the war to 24 months.

The Marines are drawing up similar plans that would for the first time send some reserve combat battalions back to Iraq for a second tour.

Under the unlimited authority given him by fearful people and a Republican Congress Bush ordered the call-up of the Guard and Reserve after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, and can mobilized troops an unlimited number of times and so units that have already served in Iraq will be called for a second and a thitd tour.

It is only just that only those RED states that voted republican in 2006 in support of those deluded neo-con sociopaths in the whitehouse should supply guard troops for service in Iraq. Blue states guard units can be called to serve elsewhere.

This was just a wild thought that came up while I was thinking about the unending stains placed upon on our soldiers and their families. I would never truly support leaving any of our soldiers to serve alone, but Republicans do not think about anything but pushing their own agendas certainly not the real cost on others who do not agree with them. It would be nice if those who push for war could be made to spill their cowardly blood themselves. Dick, Carl Goerge and Condi like bombing things .. opps shaping the enemy and I am sure even they could learn to drive a truck outside the Green Zone. That would be true American Justice.

Megs it is not I that would put anyone where I would not go myself. I thank you sir for your service ... this question is a response to the frustration that those who placed our soldiers in harms way have never served themselves and people who support those fools do not seem to understand or care that their actions in doing that endangers the lives and health of the sons and daughters of those who hatethe insanity of what they have done.

Thats not a bad idea, the problem is, in many red states, 49% of the people disagree with the war. Plus, the bulk of the citizen soldiers come from familys that opposed the war, so again, it would be the democrates paying for the republicans mistakes.

My suggestion would be that anyone who votes republican should have to serve in the military, or there children should serve in there place. Starting with the Bush twins....

There were plenty of guards who ended up in Nam. At least he served instead of hiding at an english college like Clinton did. Historically you will note that there were many presidents who presided over a wartime government who never served a day in the military. Nationally only 10% of the population has ever or is actively serving in the armed forces. Just out of curiosity, what branch were you in.

I was born and raised in New York and still live here. I am also sooooo happy that folks, young folks from the "red states", that had nothing to fear from suicide driven planes took the attack of 9/11 as an attack on ALL AMERICANS. A point you do not understand. And joining the military, ANY MILITARY UNIT, comes with the understanding that you may risk your life when so ordered by your commanders, whether it is in a domestic relief operation or a battle field. Your freedom, and mine, to sit safely in front of our computers, pontificating on the justice or injustice of the war in Iraq, doesn't mean a god-damn thing to the terrorist who do not distinguish between "red-state"/ "blue-state", since to them, we are all Americans and worthy of death. I suspect that even if WMD had been found in Iraq you would still be against the war there. That's your right, protected by those you despise.

What is your problem? Hate the war...not the soldier... Where is your heart...or do you just have no compassion for your fellow Americans? I served proudly in Iraq in the National Guard and it makes me sick that there are people like you out there that are so pig-headed and ignorant of what the real world is like. I can't believe you'd wish more deployments on soldiers that enlist to make sure they can keep their country safe. We aren't the ones that decide where we go...we just go when we're asked to. Please know that if something were to happen here in the US, we national guard, reserve, and active duty would be willing to help you in a heartbeat...even though you so easily stab us in the back with your ridiculous political beliefs and statements.
Your suggestion is ridiculous.

First of all, are there really any red States? Every State I've seen is purple, some redder or bluer than others.

To answer your question, no. The innocent will be sacrificed with the rest of us.

Well, you've certainly given this some thought and I commend you for it. If we lived in a world of perfect justice, your recommendation would become policy. I really don't know how they can justify using the National Guard for this purpose and this second and third tour thing just adds insult to injury. Please run for Congress in 2008.

The Pentagon recently announced a severe shortage of new recruits, so to counter that, they raised the maximum recruitment age to 42!! This is a horrible, sad thing, because both Sean Hannity, and Ann Coulter are 45 years old. So sad.

you're right the national and reserve troops are strained because they don't know what they are doing and don't know how to fight in an efficient manner...they do not belong in a battle field they belong in new orleans cleaning up or in florida picking up debris from hurricanes. we shouldn't send any reserve or guard troops into a war zone.... the enemy laughs at us when they see weak behavior.

I don't think any state should- and for that matter.. not national guard troops- that is not what the national guard was formed for in the first place. I think we sure need them here more than we need them over there
