it's interpretation what it's about,
but a lot of stuff maybe not Literal,
but it's funny how the story of the 'Flood'
and other stories recur in remote religions throughout the world

The bible was compiled in around 200 A.D.(in entireity) with pieces that were far older, like most of the Old Testament. The people of those times worked with the best information they had. The problem with most Christian religions is that they think the Bible is correct, VERBATIM. They forget that the Bible was written by man and only inspired by God. How can you explain how a television works to a civilization that barely understands iron? Steel was a far later invention. How do you explain complex cosmic theories of space time and black holes to people who thought that the Earth was flat and stars were just holes in the crystal sphere. Even if God knew what we know today he couldn’t have explained it in a fashion that medieval man (and earlier man) could understand.
If the bible were written today, many things would be different, but after almost 2,000 years from now we would have enough knowledge to see all the errors in that work.
What about the Book of Mormon, or the Gideon Bible? Do you think that the Baptists are heathen scum who are all going to hell? They do not believe that after the death of Jesus the Holy Ghost came and filled the apostles and caused them to speak in tongues. The bible clearly states that it happened; yet the group is famous for their extensive bible study that have arguments with the original text. Most of the people in the Middle East are dark skinned, but in the King James Version they were all made into white people. We know that is wrong. You only have to watch the coverage of the Iraq War to see that. Or do you not believe in Iraq?
The bible is an excellent resource. It is the foundation for all our laws, it teaches a good moral code, and provides an excellent example of how to live your life (Jesus). It is not a work of science; we can see the errors. Nor is it the ultimate historical resource, as all of those pesky dinosaurs argue against that. This is why many scientists believe in the scientific method separate from their religion. They know that the works of their religions were only inspired by God and they know that the bible is meant to teach; law, a moral code, and how to live your life. It is not meant to explain anything else.

When I was young the preacher told me the story and it was told his version, when I got older and tried myself, I came to the conclusion that there were some great imaginations running a muck back in the day, and now,I am not a Christian, but I have much respect for those who are, and if you are really a true Christian,I have yet to meet ya.I can't make sense out of it.

No not really. It always seemed to me that God should have gotten a bigger speaking role in it. I understand some of the sayings of Jesus, but some I don't. The Psalms are nice. Some of the Proverbs. Deuteronomy puts me to sleep.

Well to me it is the inspired and life changing Word of God! It was written by God Himself; His Spirit directed human authors (i.e. Moses, Samuel, David, Matthew, Luke, Paul and John) as they penned this amazing book. TO me the Bible is more than just a book! So in response to your question, I can understand the Bible!

You left out the poor editing, continuity errors, and the lessons on obedience.
Forget about the bible teaching morals. It has one foot in love, and the other in hate. It advocates child abuse and ignorance.

It seems to me that you at least understand a bit of it. The obedience part and the mind control techniques are important too.

Ahh, but the "true believers" snappy comeback to that is...if you were SINCERE then god's spirit would have shown you the truth.
Nice little catch 22 huh? If you don't see things their way, you weren't genuine.
And yes, I think it sounds like a book of myths by some primitive sheepherding culture because it is one!:)
