Well , I was wondering how I would be able to carefully rise the gumline of my teeth ? I try brushing hard around the gum area , and noticed only little results . Am I doing it the right way ? I feel a bit self concious when I smile , because my gums show so much when I smile ! I want to have the perfect smile when I get my braces off ! :] Thanks in advance to any help .

Some patients have this and it's totally normal. You could have your dentist try to periodontally take away some of the tissue from the palate *roof of the mouth*, and do a skin graft there. The best thing for you to do is to make an appointment with your dentist for a consult and tell him your concerns. Then you will have the pros and cons of this procedure.

Try brushing at a 90 degree angle with your toothbrush. Angle the bristle tips up like you're trying to go under the gumline and brush in small circles not back and forth or side to side. Brush gently not agressively as this may cause toothbrush abrasion which can cause sensitivity.

Whatever you do, don't brush harder. It will just make you form bad habits that will hurt you later on in life. Also, wait until you get your braces off before you decide where you want your gum line. The braces on your teeth can cause an optical illusion that might make your teeth seem shorter than they really are. Talk to your dentist. Raising the gum line can be tricky. The gum line, in part is due to where your bone is. So in raising the gum line, the doctor may have to make a gum flap back and remove some of the bone. This is fine, not abnormal and dentists are well trained in how to do this procedure.

My best advice is this: Talk to your dentist and don't try to change your body by yourself. This way you can get the results you want without doing permanent, irreversible damage to yourself.

It sounds like you may have a medical condition called receding gums..It has no cure. Try brushing not so hard ..That can be almost as bad as not brushing at all. The amount of time you spend on the actual brushing is more important. Practice smiling in your mirror to see how many different ways you can smile and not show so much gum area. I have kinda of a similar problem, but I don,t let it bother me because I get alot of compliments on my nice clean "big" smile.

if you have healthy pink gums,it isn't bad and ugly at all. nobody notice that except yourself.many of people have this problem.
but if it really really bothers you, you have 2 choice:
1)crown lengthening:they cut a bit of your gum and put some cosmetic fillings on your teeth like veneers or laminates. this method usually results in long teeth which is worse than gummy smile(in my opinion)
2)surgery: which they push your upper jaw , upper!
if you choose this method and you have braces now , you should tell your orthodontist now because orthodontic treatment plan is defferent from when you dont want this operation.

i had braces for 4 1/2 years. that always happens when you wear braces, because the braces move your teeth, it irritates your gums a little bit. brushing around them is good, but once you get your braces off they will go back to the way they were in a week.

i also suggest that you buy the crest white strip things, because your teeth will be a little bit discolored. its only like 30 dollars, and it makes you have an even better smile.

Your not supposed to brush hard. Hold your tooth brush like you hold a pen, and brush lightly with a soft tooth brush.

BRUSHING HARDER WILL ACTUALLY CAUSE GUM RECESSION AND ULTIMATELY TOOTH SENSITIVITY.
CERTAIN SMILES SHOW MORE GUMS THAN OTHERS, AND THIS IS NORMAL.
THERE ARE SOME SMILES WHICH MAY BE IMPROVED WITH A GINGIVECTOMY. IT ALL DEPENDS ON A CONSULT WITH YOUR DENTIST.
