To be an American is a nationality not a race. That there are many different races in the USA is one of the things that makes us distinct.

The word "race" should never have been linked to people. It should have stayed on the track with horses. Race has nothing to do with nothing, it was a word used to cause discourse and hate. It has nothing to do with culture or heritage.

American is not a race but it has culture and heritage. I've never asked anyone what their race is, I asked them what nationality they are. In places like Mexico, you find white, medium and dark skinned Mexicans. If you had 2 people standing side by side, both having mastered Spanish and English, both looked WHITE, you couldn't be sure one is not Mexican. I'd ask what nationality they were, not what race.

The same holds true in America, among many others we have Mexican and those from the Middle East, they look very much alike, since we have this immigration problem with Mexico you could assume everyone that looks Mexican is, but you might be wrong.

When I first met my Mexican sister-in-law, her having light olive skin almost white looking, and speaking with a heavy accent which I thought was Spanish, I assumed she was Spanish. I thought I was giving her a compliment and told her she was the most beautiful Spanish girl I'd ever met. She took offense! She hated being linked in any way with Spanish people. I said don't you like Spanish people? She said, no I don't! After that I never assumed anything about anyone, instead I asked where they are from.

My sister married a man from San Salvador, after my experience with my sister-in-law, thought I'd better check with my sister before saying anything to her husband. His skin is olive also but a little darker than my sister-in-laws so I thought because of her, that he might be Mexican. My sister about choked, she told me to never link him to a Mexican, he would be insulted! Those two never did hit it off. LOL

There is nothing special about the so called American race, which is not a race, it was a lucky ambition and the blessings of God what made this a great nation, because the Bible says it: "Those nations who bless the people of Israel will be blessed by the Lord" , and He is true to his word.
Sad to say it, if the US should decide not to help the Israelis, we may not see many more days of prosperity and power.

Race refers to your cultural and ethnic back ground. Hence the term African American, Asian American. The African part is your race and the American part is your citizenship or country of residency.

I'm curious about what you think and American is. It is a country made up of many ethnic backgrounds so I'm not sure where the race issue comes into this. Are you referring to the original Americans, the natives who lived her before all the rest of us started to arrive?

some times when some one says American, I am almost ready to say Idiot, as we let so many others take advantage of our good nature , and these fools think kindness and weakness is the same, and many times I feel the same way , it really started with Pres, Theodore Roosevelt and the Kennedy's really shoved it down our throats until now we are a nation who strives to be politically correct, and is a form of weakness, but, the America I know will only be pushed so far then to hell with politically correct, but, the America I know held to the theory of Teddy Roosevelt , "walk soft but carry a big stick" I do hope we still abide by those principals

It is the great melting pot of all races. Many citizens here have no idea what their personal bloodline is, it was mixed too many times. As far as being distinct, it would be that we have more races than any other country.

American is NOT a race. Race is skin color/culture/heritage. If American is a race then there would be blacks, whites, asians, hispanics, etc and they would all be one race, which is incorrect.

Do you understand the difference between ethnicity, and nationality? There are as many ethnicities in our country as there are ethnic groups in the world....be they asian, be they african,
be they hispanic, be they caucasian... whatever/wherever they're from, we've got folks from all over...makes things interesting.

It's the illegal immigration part of all of this that gets people upset.
We still have laws, they still need to be followed.
