My 1988 Jeep Wrangler got about 14 to 16 miles per gallon around town a little better on the highway an worse off road

It completely depends on gears, tires, any other sort of modification that your jeep may have on it. If we are talking a bone stock wrangler with less than 60 to 80 thousand miles on it you most likely will get around 17 to 19. It also really depends on your driving habits as well. If you are a moderate driver you will get closer to the high end and if you can't keep your foot out of it you probably will get closer to the lower end.

Both my 97 and my 99 SE's averaged 20 in town and right around 22-23 on the highway.

My 2001 Wrangler Sahara w/automatic trans, did 12 to 15--but only that high right after an oil change.

You'll be hard pressed to get 20 around town, I have a '93 and it get's about 15 and my Father in law has a '99 and gets about 16 or 17. Not much difference, I'm sure it's somewhere in that range still if you were thinking of a new one.

I get 11-13 mpg... It all depends on your lift, tires, tailwind/headwind, hardtop/soft, gears, up hill/ down, and weight within the vehicle
