i want to find out what gets a guys senses hightened (triggered) for him to want to find out who or what is triggering them.

First of all, obvious is better - it takes the guessing out of the game.
BUT - if guessing is your game and you want him to be excited without really knowing why -

The thing is most guys are slow and think structurally, so somethings have to be quite obvious for them to click that hey, this girl likes you.
having said that, one of the things that always brinsg excitement is a conversation like this "Hey I was going to xxx and I am not sure that I am confident driving here alone, could you please take me, just in case?" or "I was calling to find out if you can fix a XXX, mine broke and I don't know where to get it fixed" men love showing off. try it...
Don't go out of your way to fix anything in advance, you may get dissapointed, just let the man show up...
