My friends boyfriend is a super nice guy. He treats her well...but sometimes he won't call her when he says he will. He even disappears for a day or two. She doesn't believe there is another woman, however, she believes he is out drinking with his friends. The only problem is, he never gives her a proper explanation. They have been together for almost 6 years. I keep telling her to teach him a lesson by giving him a dose of his own medicine. Was I wrong to say that? Can I please get some opinions on this situation?

Best thing to do is stay out of their business. You'll just end up losing your friend.

My husband and I have a very happy relationship because we communicate with each other on a regular basis. I'm sure that is what you want for your friend. The reason why he treats her that way is probably because he doesnt value their relationship as she does. If he does feel that way, then there is no reason for him not to cheat on her or put her off for his friends. Since he's doing it now as her boyfriend, expect the behavior to continue when they become husband/wife.

If she cant figure that out herself, let her know that she needs someone who can treat her with respect and treat her the way he wants to be treated. You can tell her to leave him, but if she has been with him for 6 years, chances are she is emotionally tied up with him and it will be difficult to move on. The thing is, no matter how much you try to warn your friend, if she doesnt see it herself the situation will not improve.

I think the best thing you can do is not encourage her to play emotional games, by giving him a dose of his own medicine. That will not fix the situation. Continue being the friend you are and support her through whatever he may put her through. And when she is strong enough to move on, support her as well.
