I used to be in really good shape. I worked at a gym, worked out, ate well, and also took ballet classes. Then I had two babies, I work at a desk now, and feel like I never have any time to spend working out. I've wanted to run a marathon for years now. How do I begin? What is the first step?

You almost answered your own question? To run a marathon, it is not "What is the first step?" "It is the first step!" every journey begins with one...

i feel you on that. i was a brick house until i got pregnant and after the baby, now i have no time to go and work out! but what you need to do also is the time you do have but not to hit the gym is you can take them on the trail and walk them while you walk so everyone is getting exercise and getting fresh air. just start a routine that is reasonable. just gradually get your body back in the groove. don't push yourself from the jump or else you will get frustrated and won't follow through. do a lot of cardio, bike riding, and walking and jogging. walk on a track and do a walk, jog, run.. but remember on a marathon you have to pace yourself so there's a lot of cross country elements to it.. so just start walking more and more each day. do strength training for your arms. legs, and stuff like that like lifting weights. and if you just keep at it you'll be back on the block and you'll be burning through the marathon. I know it's gonna be hard because I say that i'm going to but i never have enough time nor energy to do it.... but if that's a goal you're trying to obtain,,, make a reasonable routine and designate some time out.. drink a lot of water and change your dieting habits as well... good luck with that and hope you get off to a great start!

The first step is time management.

You should start out walking briskly and build up to a run.

begin working out again, do leg excercises at your work. you had 2 children, you have already begun your excercises. good luck and do things with the kids at the playground or enroll the children in gymnastics with you. you can do it.
