Most likely a problem caused by an error in Windows sysfile, not sure though. Try installing it again in some other folder, or another version of the software.
If you haven't found the solution, take my advice, use opera browser on download.com or it's official website, you won't regret it I promise.
G'Luck!

Make sure it's fully uninstalled via Add/Remove Programs in your Control Panel. Then, find your way to c:/Documents and Settings/YOURUSERNAME/Application Data/ and delete the Mozilla folder. Then, at the same hiarchical level as Application Data, find Local Settings/Application Data/ and delete Mozilla. From there you might download and install CCleaner from http://www.ccleaner.com/download/. Once downloaded, install it, then run it. Have it check your "registry" for residue of Firefox or Mozilla.

i had the same problem a few days back, reboot(restart) your computer after uninstalling Firefox and then reinstall it. It will most probably fix the problem. If it still persists, you can get Opera, which is good(though nothin like Firefox) from http://www.opera.com/ However, always keep IE as your default browser.

Sounds very strange! I've got the same set up, so that isn't the problem.
I assume you still have Explorer, and have used that to try to download firefox again?
(I know it is a pain having to allow Explorer to clutter up your disk space, but unfortunately it is still worth keeping in case of emergencies)

I would use System Restore to restore your computer before you had the problem. Firstly I would check for spyware/anti virus on the computer however.
