Almost always, it is required. The hematoma cuts off blood supply to the cartilages which can lead to necrosis of the ear if not evacuated in time. Consult your physician right away.

Surgery is not compulsory. Hematomata auris disappear spontaneously by getting absorbed within six weeks.
