I wash my hair every other day with a shampoo plus conditioner in-one, and on the days in between I just condition my hair. (I heard it was better for the hair and scalp to shampoo every other day, but condition every day?).
Anyways, even though I keep my hair clean, it tends to get oily, I tried shampooing and conditioning every day, and then shampooing and conditioning every other day, but it still gets oily.
Is there a special kind of shampoo I should be using? (Keep in mind, I don't have a butt load of money to spend).

I too have oily hair. I use Suave Daily Clarifying Shampoo for Normal to Oily Hair (very inexpensive!) but I don't use it every day. In fact, I shampoo only about two to three times a week. Don't use conditioner, you don't need it if you have oily hair! Excessive shampooing and conditioning will promote oily hair. Exposing your hair to sunlight and swimming in the ocean will help relieve the oiliness. I've never tried washing my hair in salt water as a substitute. And I don't know what amount of salt to water to use and how to rinse--perhaps you could use some common sense and experiment.
Swimming in a chlorinated swimming pool will relieve the oiliness but can play havoc with your hair if you do it too much. Just ask any member of a girls swim team. My neices hair turned green from this, but that is uncommon.
Generally, very short hair styles have little problems with oiliness, I mean like crew cuts and burrs unless you put hair dressing on them.
After normal shampooing, a final rinse in distilled water or softened water will help especially if you live in an area with hard water.
Use a fine brush--one with lots of fine bristles--not one with the few thick stiff bristles. Don't brush too much.
Anti-dandruff shampoos may be useful, but they tend to be harsh leaving hair dry and uncontrolable, and the last thing you want to do is put stuff--conditioners, styling gels etc--on your hair to make up for the dryness.
An improved diet with vitimin and mineral suppliments may help. Too much sugar and fatty foods can increase the oiliness of hair. Greens and raw vegatables may help.
The ultimate solution is to brush corn meal into and out of your hair. This will really work, but the results are only temporary. You my want to use this before styling your hair for a special date. But beware that getting all of the corn meal out of your hair can take a lot of doing.
The basics here are:
1. Wash your hair less often.
2. A lot of the shampoos I have used, expensive and cheap made the problem worse. So try what I recommended above.
3. Don't use cream rinse or conditioner. Nature has provided you with something that is much better.
4. The oiliness of your hair may actually decrease several days after shampooing with moderate brushing (combing may actually be better) Try to avoid rubbing the scalp too much while brushing or combing.
5. I prefer air drying to blow drying.
6. The key is to consider not so much the condition of your hair right after you shampoo dry and style, but what your hair will be like in 24 hours or in three days. Getting it real oil free feeling and dry right after shampooing may not be the best thing surprisingly.
7. Take heart, usually oily hair is not as hard to deal with as excessively dry hair. With some natural oils present the hair stylist or yourself, as the case may be, has something to work with. The hair stylists' nightmare is excessively dry hair that frizes. You've heard of expensive hot oil treatments? You will probably never have to bother with those.

I have oily hair, and I never condition it! I don't need to. Even though I style my hair with a blow dryer everyday, I get it cut every six or eight weeks, so I don't have a problem with damage. A gentle shampoo is all you need. You can wash your hair everyday, and if you feel that you absolutely must condition it, do so only twice a week, and only on the ends. I like Pantene shampoos a lot.
FYI, I use hair conditioner as shaving cream for my legs. It's moisturizing, works great, and it's cheap!

i have the same problem... make sure you get a shampoo for oily hair... that normally helps a little. paul mitchell and matrix products are excellent the second day when i can tell my hair is getting oily, i'll put it up, with the bangs pinned in a bob on top of my head with some pins. the extra lift hides the oil, and helps keep it off your head from getting more oily. it looks cute too!

well first of all, if you have oily scalp, you don't need to apply the moisturiser on your scalp. you just need to rub a very small amount on your tresses. try to use a separated conditioner and shampoo instead of the mixed ones so that you can control the conditioner amount.
however, there are a few tricks in dealing with oily hair.
1. don't brush your hair too much. the brush will stimulate oil glands on your scalp so they will produce more oil
2. when brushing, try to apply a small amount of baby powder on your scalp and brush until the powder isn't visible anymore
3. when drying your hair, don't aim the dryer too close to your scalp. the heat will also stimulate your oil glands.
4. have a bandana handy in your purse. this will be a major fix when you just don't need looking all oily and flat. go for hippie rocker style!
have a good day and good luck!

I suggest you shampoo your hair daily with Pantene Pro-V Classic Clean and condition it daily with Pantene Pro-V Classic Care. When you use the conditioner, only put it on the tips (the last 2 inches of your hair). Keep the conditioner on the tips until you count to 60, then rinse it off. This works!

With oily hair you have to go really easy on the conditioners; and definitely not shampoo with conditioner. Go to Sally (or another) beauty supply and ask their advice.

use garnier fructice. you should use shampoo everday. not a lot. use conditioner everyday but NOT on the roots of your hair. only on the bottom of your hair. shampoo/condtioner mixes don't work as well. good luck oil girl.

pantene pro v classic clean is great.
also, if you want a quick fix in the morning, use a boar hair hairbrush to spread out the oil. then, spray a LITTLE bit of hairspray at the roots. it should dull it. =]
