I was on zyprexa, I think 10 milligrams once, some higher dosage. Zyprexa and i had a love, mostly hate, relationship. Zyprexa made me gain 80 pounds by slowing down my metabolism. it also caused me to sleep through my freshman year of highschool and part of my sophmore year- greatly affecting my grades. On the flipside though, I was pretty psychotic and the drug may have been what it took to permanently tame me. Now I am on topimax and lexapro, which i find to be my personal ideal combination. I have on rare even taken a zyprexa as a PRN- as needed. I use it for the effect that is similar to valium, very calming if I am very manic. I haven't needed it in several years though. As for zoloft, that didn't work for me.
I had a very bad experience with taking medication that was "thrown" at me. The only time I ever found a combination that worked for me was when I did my own research, advocated myself, and said "this doesn't work for me" and "i would like to try this combination." If you make realistic suggestions, your psychiatrist will probably listen. drugs alone are never enough to be the answer to emotional problems, unfortunately. the best they can do for anyone is regulate their moods and keep them from aweful feelings. anti-depressants do just that, work against depression- not cause happiness. be careful not to confuse the two. good luck.

Zyprexa is a 'major tranquilizer' actualy all it ever did for me was make me sleep all the time.
My issue is Zyprexa which is only FDA approved for schizophrenia (.5-1% of pop) and some bipolar (2% pop) and then an even smaller percentage of theses two groups.
So how does Zyprexa get to be the 7th largest drug sale in the world?
Eli Lilly is in deep trouble for using their drug reps to 'encourage' doctors to write zyprexa for non-FDA approved 'off label' uses.
The drug causes increased diabetes risk, and medicare picks up all the expensive fallout. There are now 7 states (and counting) going after Lilly for fraud and restitution.

Zyprexa is for psychosis, voice hearing etc. If this is not your problem then no l don't think they will help you.
Zoloft will help with your depression but l think you need to find a good counsellor you may find that very helpful with your issues. Talking things through can be a big help.
Good Luck

not knowing your diagnosis, i dont no how well it will work for you zyprexa is for psychotic behaviour, it will calm you down, but it does cause sleepiness, so use caution when driving or working you may wanna seek social workers to talk with to find out why you have this behaviour, zoloft is for depression it works well for some people and not for others, maybe look for a new doctor yours doesnt sound very understanding! you may just need to talk about your problems and learn how to better deal with them!

Hi, Pop Princess. I believe your doctor is partly doing his job in giving you pills, but if they aren't working, you can tell him how you feel. He may be able to direct you to something more needful for you (eg. therapy, counseling, etc.). I took Zyprexa before myself, and all it did was make me sleep and eat. I believe emotional issues require emotional help, not pills. You can be assertive and let your doctor know how you feel. Good luck with it, and Ciao.
