i've always wondered about the logic behind that. does my disbelief really merit eternal damnation? why can't there just be a "My bad god. i now realize i was wrong. it happens. sorry." and god and i could be cool. we could go partying or something. why can't it be like that? that just seems so shallow to me. please, explain the logic.

There is no logic behind it, that's why it's called religion.

Firstly, Johnny P that verse is John 3:16.

Next it's not that you earn eternal damnation, it's just that it's the only other option for your afterlife if you don't choose salvation. God isn't torturing anyone, that's Satan. And it can be like, "My bad God" and you realize you were wrong. But that has to happen while you're still alive. After you die, it's all over. There's no chance then to say my bad. God is actually patiently waiting for you to say my bad, so that he can save you from what every person is doomed to by their own actions.

for God to make it so everyone will go to heaven would be tantamount to forcing us to do what He wants. forced love is no love at all. God has always given us a choice to follow Him or to rebel against Him , if that's what we want.

the faith that will ''get you into heaven'' is a moral, rather than an intellectual issue - no amount of proofs will ever turn unbelief into faith.

i am of the persuasion that any and all arguments against christianity can be refuted. so if you spend your whole life collecting arguments and 'evidence' that God isn't real, the bible is fake, etc. and bring them to me on the last day of your life, i could refute every last one (i mean...like, if i'mma live that long, too :-p) but the problem wasn't the arguments and evidences in the first place. you decided on what you would believe before either of us would have said a word.

God gave us a choice. We choose Him or the devil who is a liar and deciever. The Word of God is written By God. It is God's breath. He said that sin will send us to hell. It is your choice so you send your own self to hell because you will not cry out to God. He put a void in each one of us so He could move in there and live. You must ask Him too. Until you ask Him too the devil lives there. If you do not believe that ,just try to be real sweet for one week. Don't get mad or lose your temper or do anything wrong. You want to do good but you will sin. Why? Because you must be born again, this time in the spirit. Your spirit will do right and love God. You need to cry out to God and get to know Him..Study His Word and obey it...

Father God does not want to punish you for all eternity. You need to realize that there are two eternities and you have the free will to choose the one you will inhabit as you obtain your spiritual existence. You can choose to serve Almighty God thru obedience to His son Jesus Christ, or you can choose to serve Satan. If you choose Jesus you will be in His Kingdom, If you choose satan, you will be in his. There is the logic. It is the agreement between Almighty God and satan. Jesus gets to take care of His children and satan gets to take care of his.

It doesn't make sense to a lot of folks. It's one of the biggest reasons people shy away from religion. There's always the threat of punishment if you choose differently, which in fact negates the freedom you supposedly have to exercise your freewill. It simply just doesn't work for some, and for others it seems to be everything.

God's measure of justice is different than we think.

He must do what is righteous and just. Lets say your in a courtroom and you have been found guilty of drug pushing, and rape. You tell him, "I am sorry for what I did please let me off", he says "you should be sorry". If that judge is just he will give you the punishment you deserve, if you want to know what the price is, look at Jesus, who paid that judgment on your behalf. You must not just be sorry but repent. You should ask God to grant you repentance.

What have you done that you think God wants to punish you? You can say you're sorry - that's called repentance - but you have to mean it and try not to mess up again. God and you could be cool at least that's what He really wants. So be cool with Him.

Its a lie--God doesn't burn his children alive in the fire for all eternity. Read Jeremiah 7:31 and know the true heart of God. Quit believing all the false religious lies about him.

To believe or not to believe that is the question! ?Well just remember hell's hot and Jesus saves! No one can make you believe, you have to make that decision on your own you were given free will what you do with it is up to you,but there are no do overs. Trying to explain the "logic" to you is pointless because you'll just decide to take what you want of it and throw out the rest
