A few in the U.S. have gone on to be president, none have been great or even good leaders. Washington was probably the best.
The really great leaders rarely advance to the higher ranks.

Our elected employees are not supposed to be "leaders" that mythic appellation was started by politicians as a form of self aggrandizement. They are supposed to represent our will, many do not, and sometimes there is a reaction like there was last Tuesday. But even after they have been fired for cause, they continue to feed like leeches of the people's taxes.

Genghis Khan was a great military leader as evidenced by his establishment of the Mongol Empire, which covered most of Asia and part of Europe at its height. He was very good at inspiring people to build his empire, which is the definition of a great leader.

George S. Patton, he was probably the greatest military general of the modern centurys... but for all of time... probably Sun Tzu (writer of The Art of War) he was a genius and absolutly amazing when it came to warfare. He wrote the book on how to lead men, and it is still used today to train every officer in the modern US military as well as militaries around the world!
