If someone, like a friend for example, gave you a bird's egg or newborn bird and you had to take care of it (for like a week or more until you find someone to do it) but you couldn't tell your folks about it, how would you keep the whole thing a secret?

I just wanted to know this if I ever have a scenario like this.

If you are not experienced in caring for a egg or a baby bird, mostly likely the egg will not hatch and the baby bird would die. Taking on this kind of thing when you have no experience with caring for birds will result in death.....

Raising birds is alot harder that people think. It takes a lot of time. You need to have the proper food, temperate, and humid environment to hatch eggs or raise babies.

Well, your gonna need a heat light. One that doesn't get too hot to cook the bird/egg. This will keep it warm. Second of all, find a place that light can't escape out of (I'd maybe use my closet With a bunch of towels on the door so the light can't get out). If the bird talks, your in trouble. Thats as best as I can help you. If its a baby bird though, its gonna need baby bird food. Good luck finding some without your parents knowing! I would try telling them. Maybe if you have a good excuse for needing to keep the bird, they'd understand.

Odd question, but okay.

Get yourself a trading card box from a comic book store. These are rigid cardboard and are difficult to crush. Pad it with clean socks or hand towels and put the egg in it. Put the box on top of your bookshelf and check on it every few days.

A newborn bird, you're screwed. Take it to a wildlife shelter. You can't possibly care for it. It requires much more knowledge of ornithology (study of birds) than you have to ensure that it will live.

Eggs & baby birds require very specialized care - it's nearly impossible for someone to do everything that they need. You need to regulate the temperature very, very closely or it won't hatch (or will die.)

You can't expect to do this on your own. Ask your friend to talk to their parents - they will need help if they are trying to hatch it - and you can't give away a one week old bird.

Really, if your major concern was the well-being of the bird - you should contact the SPCA. They are better equipped to take care of this.

Best of luck.

If I lived in the country, I would fix it a nest-type box, etc. If it is an egg and not kept warm like the mother bird sitting on it, it will not hatch!

Well either way, bird's egg or newborn, you're gonna have to sit on it just like the parents do. And don't forget to forage for food, worms and grubs are good.

I once hid an injured chicken in my closet until she was better.

Many ways. Set the bird up so it can be cared for properly. Just put something in front of the container so you can't tell a bird is in that location.

Or just ask your parents can you care for him temporarily

I don't think this will ever happen to you, but if it does I think you shold hide it in a shoe box with some warm cloth inside. You also 0should check on it once in a while. LOL! Funny question.
