It's been in my family for quite awhile now...and now it's mine. But about 5 years ago my dad said the engine started running really rough...like at first it was just a small miss here and there, but then it turned into constant missing and running rough at idle. I'd like to get this fixed...does anyone else have this problem, and if so, how did you fix it? the car is fine to drive and everything...just runs rough when stopped. has 148,000 miles. thanks for your help.

I isolate the weak cyl then test compression. If the engine is low on compression not much can be done. Remove all 6 spark plugs If the cyl pressures are above 140 and with in 14 psi of each other then replace spark plugs with new. Start with easy things Dist cap and rotor first use nissan parts. Then spark plug wires. #6 is hard to get at I know. Replace the fuel filter. Then ask Dad when the timing belt was last changed. One more thing while it is idling rough does the EGR pipe get hot? left side drivers side of the engine there is a pipe from the exhaust manifiold to the EGR valve. If hot there might be carbon stuck in the egr causing the engine to run rough. You can open the valve by pushing up on the diaphram.. holes on the underside, engine should stall tap on the body of the egr valve and restart and repeat that might get the valve working again. Or replace it if the tube stays hot at idle.

first i'd look at spark plugs and wires, then the o2 sensors.. then clean out fuel filters and maybe a new pump.
check out the cat convertor, make sure its not plugged off.

from Nikki's auto repair it sounds like your 02 sensor is bad.
