She walks around holding onto things and I even got her a little walking push toy to help gain her confidence. Everyone seems surprised when I tell them that she isn't walking on her own yet. Should I be worried??

Short answer: HECK NO!

You're toddler is doing just fine, in fact great! Those people who seem surprised need to mind their own business. I bet your child was "advanced" at other things, right?

This world is too much on trying to push kid's to grow up WAY too fast. Drink from cups at 4 months old, eat regular food at 4 months old, stop pacifires and bottles at 12 months, walk at 9 months,,,it's like GIVE ME A BREAK! I have an 11 year old daughter now, and I feel the schools put WAY too much pressure on them and homework trying to stress them out at an early age!

I have a son now who is 12 months old. He is not walking. He takes a few steps here and there but PREFERS to crawl. But he is intelligent, he just LOVES to crawl and feels why the heck do I need to walk (LOL). My daughter was walking at 9 almost 10 months. My son probably won't walk until a few months from now and really I do not care! My daughte was potty trained at 12 months.

The whole point I'm trying to make is that kids just do things at their own pace. It almost seems like the more we push, the more they resist. Let's just let them be. If there aren't any other "red flag" signs of needing to take your child to the doctor to be checked out for something like let's say...autism..then you're daughter is growing and acting PERFECTLY NORMAL!

No, she' s normal. My son didn't start walking on his own until he was 15 months old. It seemed that he didn't even really walk, he just started running. Don't push her to walk, and enjoy not having to chase her around while you still can!

Absolutely not...........remember all kids are different and do things at their own pace. Although my son walked at 11 months, there was a little girl in his toddler class that just refused to walk even up till 15 months. She would just get around on her knees and she did this until she decided she was ready to walk on her feet.

My youngest didn't walk unassisted until 15 months. She was simply a large child that had more weight to carry and she just took her time. Don't worry, she is fine! Be glad, I have a friend that walked at 8 months and has had hamstring problems her whole life.

Babies mature at their own rate - this is as true of walking as of any other skill. If your doctor is happy that she's maturing normally and that all the areas of her growth are healthy, don't worry about it. She'll walk when she's ready, and then the only think you'll have to worry about is catching her!

Not at all. I have four kids and they all started walking between 9 months and 16 months. I've heard that if they start too early it's not too good for their legs anyway.

I thought they said up to 16 months is normal ... so hopefully she will be soon! She sounds close! Try putting clothes pins in her hands... my husband's Mom did that with him, and he took off! Our son always had to have something in his hands- a toy, socks, etc... at first, and it actually helped his balance too!

Goodluck! She will soon!

My son was a late walker. So was I. Every child is different, but if you are worried see the doctor.
