How can this threat of "burning in hell" still be a threat to anybody that has passed high school biology? When you die, your soul departs your body, your central nervous system ceases to function, thusly severly impairing your ability to "feel" things after death. So if you can connect logical thoughts together, then the threat of burning in a fire in hell has no cause to alarm you. But yet I will see the most seemingly knowledgeable people espouse the "don't do it, or you will burn in hell" saying so quickly. Does any do any research before they buy into a scam, or is everyone just a blind sheep these days? If you so readily believe in burning in hell, would you be interested in hearing about a great company named Amway? If you don't join my Amway pyramid, you will burn in hell!

A. When you die, your central nervous system dies, and your brain dies. Your brain is where you process and differentiate between pain, and pleasure, without these two "worldy" attributes, it is impossible to feel pain.
B. As stated below, God is omnipresent, another tennent of Christianity. If God is omnipresent, then as stated in the gospel of St. Thomas, "The kingdom of God is within you and all around about you", so therefor being in "Hell" would be being in a place created and sustained by God, so how can you say your soul is eternally separated from God?

You cannot feel pain if you don't have nerves or a brain to interpret the pain stimuli. If you no longer have a brain you have no emotions. You cannot tell between pleasure and anguish so obviously whatever mental torment hell would cause wouldn't apply either.
Want proof? Simple go down to the nearest road and try kicking a dead cat or deer that got hit by a car. Obviously the dead animal does not make a sound or act like it's experiencing pain because it's nervous system is no longer functioning to receive pain stimuli. You can kick it all you want as hard as you want and it still won't feel it.
Hell was a concept invented to bend primitive people to the will of religious and political hustlers.

I think that you are taking something that was said figuratively - literally, Sir.
This a mistake that many seem to be making, including members of the Clergy, where a figurative use is taken literally.
Now, we say "It's raining cats and dogs". Do you really see cats and dogs falling from the skies?
This is what happens when one takes a figurative statement and reads it as literal.
I hope I was able to clarify the intent; because, you see, the Bible is a compilation of a lot of "Testaments" in various dialects of Hebrew, Aramaic and so on that have been translated from Latin, to Greek and then English and so on and there have been innumerable "losses" and twists and turns that were taken due to this exercise.
Do have a nice day.

well, not all hell mongers use the fiery pit routine. some forecast separation from God for those who fail to adhere to the correct dogma. separation from God is just as nonsensical has an eternally burning soul ... how can one be separated from the omnipresent?
Gospel of St. Thomas says something like
"the Kingdom of God is within you and all around and about you."

nah man, hell is real whether u believe in it or not and is not man-made. realistically, of course ur body dies and is not to feel anything but ur SOUL is where you feel and where u hurt or where u feel good. why shud there be a earth full free-willed ppl to do wtvr they please and hurt whoever they shall w/o there being a consequence? and im not talking about the government or constitution as a result because obviously, they dont exist in all parts of world. earth is a creation as are humans and life is merely a test. whether u choose to live it well or not is ur decision but theres surely a direction where u'll go based on ur desicion. i think u shud look over a few religions or ur interest and see what fits u best bcuz science only goes so far.

Haha, Amway...
Good point, but I think when people say "burn in Hell," they are referring metaphorically to some painful ordeal. Or perhaps the soul can feel, and Hell is fraught with "spiritual" flames. Or there is no Hell. Honestly, I don't have this knowledge.

We do not really die. Our body "dies" for all intents and purposes, but our soul never dies. You either believe the bible or you don't. It speaks of "weeping and gnashing of teeth" when people go to hell. There is real pain felt there. The worse is the separation from Jesus and God forever. Quit trying to rationalize it all out. Give your heart to Jesus and never worry about it again. Then you can spend your time thinking about how wonderful Heaven will be!!!! Just because you rationalize hell away, doesn't make it not exist or go away.

You will be scared to read this; it was revealed in the Quran 1400 years ago :
The Holy Qur'an , Chapter 4 , Verse 56.
"Those who reject our signs, We shall soon cast into the fire. As often as their skins are roasted through, We shall change them for fresh skins, that they may taste the chastisement. Truly Allah is Exalted in Power, Wise"
God created the humain ; don't think that you are more intelligent; lolll

It is my belief that the "burning" will be having to exist for eternity separated from God and all the goodness He has bestowed upon you during your time on earth never again having a chance to be in fellowship with Him. Rather than poking fun at it, you might want to consider the many possible ways that "burning" could be interpreted. I enjoyed your thought-provoking question. Hope to see you in Heaven some day.

You have heard of brainwashing! Even "highly educated" people can be brainwashed to believe the most absurd stuff. Take a look at cults and fundamental "churches" and see how many college educated folks belong to these cults and sects. Most all believe in Hell, and are afraid of it. I's called brainwashing!

And you think that everything you need to know, you have learned in high school biology?
Yes, there is a "central nervous system" of the physical body. It seems also that the "spirit" has personality, parts, and a "central nervous system".
The Lord Jesus Christ told about two people who died. Jesus let us have a look beyond death.
-------------------------
St. Luke 16:22-26
And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus [nearby]. And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that [would come] from thence.
-------------------------
the rich man died,
and was buried;
And in hell he lift up his eyes, (though his body was buried, yet he still had eyes, still had the ability to see)
being in torments,
and seeth Abraham afar off
And he cried and said, Father Abraham,
have mercy on me, and send Lazarus,
that he may dip the tip of his finger in water,
and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.
(Remember, his body was buried, but he was very conscious, in "torments" ...)
They didn't teach you those realities in high school did they? All they teach you is about the physical body ... but not about what will be experienced beyond/outside the physical body.
