When I was a child, my mother always put peroxide in our ears to loosen up the wax and let the water drain. If it is from the inside, then I would suggest one of the nose medicine squeeze bottles that puts a mist in your nose and lean your head toward the ear that is full and that will open it up from the inside. My mother also heard that from her doctor when she had trouble with her ears popping all the time. Good Luck to you and your husband!

I've had this happen to me before as well. If you do nothing it will probably dry out on its own, but it could become infected and you could develop what some people call swimmer's ear. Here's the treatment that worked for me. Have him tilt his head sideways with the full ear up. Take about a teaspoon of rubbing alcohol and pour it in the ear canal and let it stand in there for about ten seconds. Then have him to tip his head so the alcohol runs out. Be sure not to try the above around any open flame or other ignition source otherwise a full ear will be the least of your husband's problems. Repeat the bit with the alcohol twice per day, once in the morning and once at night prior to bedtime. It should clear it up in about three days. If it does not seek professional medical help.
Good luck.

To help it drain, you can heat up everything inside with a hair dryer and tilt your head. You can try a turkey baster with warm water and literally flush it out. There is over the counter Debrox, it will help break up everything inside.
I still would recommend going to the doctor, so you don't misdiagnose yourself.... there could be an infection and the smell and feeling of vinegar, garlic, and other home remedies might not be the best thing.

If by a full ear you mean water sort of like "swimmers ear" when you get water in your ears that hurts, the doctor told my sister to use an eye drop bottle and put half vinegar and half peroxide in it. Drip i believe three drops in the ear and put a cotton ball in it. do this for both ears and it should dry up.

Sometimes you can tilt your head as if you are trying to drain it, and insert a q-tip to soak up the water. (not real deep) You may need to do it several times. Or just lay down on the full ear and hopfully it will drain away.

As a swimmer the only solution to this problem was rubbing alcohol. In fact they sell it at the drug store as "swimmers ear drops" in fact it is rubbing alcohol. Use the 78% alcohol not the 90%. Eating fresh raw garlic may also help. There is something known as "ear candles" available at health food stores but I don't know much about their use. Non-drying Sudefed or its generic equivalent may be of some help. As is Mucinex. Lying down with the affected ear down with a heating pad is often helpful. A hair dryer may also be effective. But in both cases be careful of excess heat, you don't want to add burns to the problem. Hair dryers on 'high' can burn you.
Sometimes walking down stairs roughly would shake the water out as would hopping on one foot. But caution should be used here because water in the ear can cause a loss of balance.
It is important to try to get the water out of the ear otherwise it may result in an infection known as "swimmers' ear."
There is a product that sounds interesting: "Mack's dry and clear ear drops."
Once my ear was cleared during romantic activity with my girl friend she stuck her tongue in my ear and it cleared. However, trying this deliberately again did not produce desired results. But it was fun experimenting.
If you come down with swimmers' ear as a result of this it is worth it to go to the doctor and get some antibiotics.
I've come down with swimmer's ear several times and each time it cleared up without medical intervention. Next time I'll go to the doctor to head off the suffering though.
I've tried the Murine ear wash system, which is considered the medically safe way to remove excess wax from one's ears, but it never helped. This is not to say that it won't help you.
I've been to ear, nose, and throat specialist doctors about this and they didn't seem to be particularly helpful. If it goes into swimmer's ear of course they can write prescriptions for the necessary antibiotics, but a family physician can also write such prescriptions. ENTs have ways of relieving this problem but in my experience they didn't want to use these methods. I think they found it easier just to write presciptions. Maybe you could find one that would do more than just write a script.
Of course, most of the time water in the ear goes away without causing any problems but while you have it, it is damed uncomfortable. I do recommend using the ear drops to try to prevent swimmer's ear, however.
Also a solution of half vineger and half water will be helpful in preventing swimmer's ear. Acidic environments are bacteriostatic--meaning bacteria do not reproduce in an acidic environment. A kayaker recommended this to me.
For more information see the websites below.
Good luck, I've been there.

He could put the full ear pointing down and make a suction cup with his hand. After suctioning his ear a few times the water will come out.
