Anti-inflammatory drugs seem to upset my dog's stomach so I'd like to give her vicodin or ultram (tramadol) occasionally if she's in bad pain. But I want to make sure these drugs can safely be used in canines. My god is four years old, 8 pounds, half pomeranian/half poodle. I'd like some advise about this. What would be the correct dose? Thank you!

The correct dose is known by your vet... that is where you should be taking your dog. Many medications are based and calculated by weight. There are also medications that could be poisonous to your dog and cause more problems or death. Is trying to save a few bucks worth your dog's life? Take the little one into the vet now!!!

Absolutely do not give your dog these medications! First, both medications are narcotics and extremely addictive for humans and note even tested for the animal market. Second, these tablet are coated and are time released, meaning a little is released into you system at a time. If you try to cut or crush up the pills you risk overdosing your animal. Last, liver disease is a huge concern for humans who have quite a bit more weight to them than an 8 pound dog! If your dog is that uncomfortable, I recommend that you talk to a vet and get something suitable for your dog and have the correct medical care for your dog that he/she deserves!

My Husky accidentally ingested 2 Pecocets I had left in my pill case when I had 3 fractured discs. She was 50 lbs and was fine. I called the VAT ASAP as I discovered what happened and he gave me the assurance that it was fine but in the future if the dog was in pain to see him.

Nothing worse than doggie addiction.

See your vet.... all drugs have side effects regardless of species.

Please do not use these drugs on your dog. You can overdose her easily as you do not know how to calculate the dosage to give her for how much she weighs. You can safely give her 1/2 of a child`s Benadryl tablet. It will help her rest and not hurt her.
