I am happily married with 4 children (twins at home) and I am having trouble settling down. We were quite poor when we had our 1st child and moved around alot to further my husbands career...after the twins we moved to MI from WV and after 1 yr moved from MI to NV...now 8 months in I still can not make friends or even get a newspaper subscription...I can not settle in because this is not where I want to raise my family...after moving so much how can you finally settle down? I want to make friends and get involved ina community..but how do you find the right one??? HELP!!!!

I've moved 135 times in 35 years. Nothing wrong with that. You learn to either make friends fast, or you get comfortable with your own company. Having kids makes it different. Kids need to be in one place a long time or they don't learn important social skills.

You need to find a group of people that you have thing in common with first. Then join their organization. Preferably around you age group. Sometimes even a sporting club will do.. or one for your children.. there are bound to be other parents wanting to meet new people. It takes time to get into a place and feel settled... don't stress too much. Remember it is hard.. you are not doing anything wrong.. things will happen.. have faith.

(Becareful of weird religious cults... I wouldn't advise starting to hang around those types...lol)

May be deep down you're expecting another move, so you don't want to start any roots you might have to leave. If you have time to volunteer, you might want to contact any of your local charities and start from there. If your other 2 are of school age you can volunteer in their school or be involved in their activities such as band or sports. I hope you find something soon.

i think you should do a week trip to the places you like or think you would want to raise your family. when you go to different places check out the schools, job sites, and what ever is most important to you. maybe this Will help you.

My God. Your question seems to echo my life/feelings.

I think the reason that I have not really made friends here is because I'm not working or going to school here (which is the 2 places where friends seem to be made).

Best of luck, be well..
