I get my kids a small spiral notebook and lots of stickers. I also bring a few crayons in a plastic baggie. This works for quite a while. Lots of different stickers are best. Surprise them with this on the plane. If it is just you and a 2 yr old, then you can read to them, look thru the in flight magazine, find all the dogs, all the trucks, etc..... Small plastic animals, characters, figures.....all are best if you pack them up a few weeks in advance so they seem new.
Also, lots of snacks!! Again, old favorites they haven't had in a while....
A computer with headphones and some baby einstein movies or whatever else your child enjoys can work (tho I have never gone this route).
I fly with my 2 -- starting when my son was 5 mos and daughter 28 mos. I just figure, my flight is only about 2 hours or so...... and I figure I can do ANYTHING for 2 hrs. If you are on a super long flight you will need some more things to do.....
My First Leap Pad is good, but hard to hear on the plane sometimes. Oh! Also there are those magnetic playsets....they sell them at places like Learning Express and teacher stores (they have a dollhouse one, beach, construction, dinosaurs.....). Small, pieces stay in place. PERFECT for travel.
Good luck!

You know best what keeps your child interested the most, and for the longest time. Those are the toys that you need to bring.
The only exception is don't bring anything that makes noise. Your fellow passengers will lynch you for that. If your child is in love with a Game Boy, for example, just make sure before you leave home that it can be put on mute, and mute it before you board the plane.

When I travel with my son, he's 3 years old, I bring his laptop along with us. I got it at Walmart and it has like 80 different games on it. Aside from play games, it has learning games on it too. So not only is he doing something he enjoys, he can also learn while hes at it. I got the laptop for him when he was 2 and he picked up on it pretty quickly. They don't cost much either. Another thing I bring along is binoculars. You can get those at a dollar store. My son loves looking at all the little cars and houses from the plane (on a clear day) Kids get bored real quick, especially on long flights. Pack a backpack just for your child to carry on their back. Whatever you choose to bring, just keep it all in there. Books, small cars, any craft ideas that dont require glue, scissors. You know your child best. Hope this helps!!

Books, crayons and paper, play-doh, and one of the best ones was a waterless fingerpainting kit. It comes with about 6 pots of different colors that magically appear when painting onto the magic coloring book.
I got this for my little girl when I flew to Europe with her, and it was great! They use their fingers on the "paint", which feels more like lip-balm. When they're done, you dont need water to wash it away-- just wipe with a kleenex or cloth. I think it was by Crayola, and costs about $7 at Wal-mart.

When mine was 2 he was obsessed with pressing buttons, so we got him a little toy computer that teaches words, counting, numbers, letters, shapes. Just keep the volume on low.
Plus your little one will probably be entertained by the tray, the little drink cups and pretzels.

Fisherprice DoodlePro. The child and draw and erase with pen falling and flying about. Some parents even bring it to church with them to keep the kids busy while the serve is going on.

Just make sure whatever you pick won't cause you problems at the metal detector. (What normally keeps your child entertained in the car?)
And try to give the child something to chew on - little kids often have trouble with their ears not popping.
Best of luck!

portable DVD player with a favorite DVD would be my pick. Plus lots of little toys in a small bag-the type you would have in your car: such as books, small puzzles, toy telephone, etc.
