why do guys always pay attention to the way girls look?

Probably the same reason girls always pay attention to the way guys look.

Looks, Looks, Looks. That's basic animal instinct. Think about a peacock's feathers or lion's mane. Those physical attributes aren't solely for our viewing pleasure while at the local zoo; they're trying to find a mate too! While personality may rule in the end, it always starts with looks, no way around it...it's just the way it is. Hope that helps.

I debate with my wife about this. I've found that women pay more attention to other women than men do.
Men pay attentions to female looks because we are very visual. Whether or not you like it, we inhabit animal bodies. As such, men look for compatible women to procreate with . Women look for compatible men to nest. In this day in age compatible men are those that can provide food, shelter, clothing etc.......Those are things that require getting to know a man. Men have testosterone pumping through their veins telling them to procreate as much as possible.
I have found that women compete for mens' visual attention. A woman will notice more about another women attire, nails, hair, make-up, etc.....than any man ever will.

For the opposite reason that woman work hard at looking attractive. You ladies are attractive ,and we men our attracted. It is all about the ancient form of a woman in the deepest part of our brains.
My eye is just plain attracted to the form of a lady. It is such a strong urge to look that we just look unconsciously. And it takes a lot of control not to react like a long lost male seeing his first woman's breast line, ankle, finger or any part of a woman in twenty years.
Please remember that it is just an automatic reaction to begin with and then begins the appraisal of a woman, or not. A lot of men learn to avoid the stare and the quite reaction, but it is not easy.
