Everyday this happens. He points to his bellybutton. "Mom my stomach hurts" even when we are eating and just now going to bed. This has been going on for months. We are in the process of switching Drs. cua his other doctor didn't think much of it. I ask him what did he eat in school, when did he last have a BM. what could cause this? or is this nerves or attention? I hope someone can help. Thank you.

Please do not dismiss this complaint. I do not want to scare you but I don't know how else to make you take this seriously. Take him back to the doctor and insist on a complete physical.

There is an extremely rare childhood cancer of the abdomen called desmoplastic small round cell tumor. It predominately strikes boys and young adults and occurs as multiple masses within the abdominal cavity. Feel his tummy all over for lumps or anything hard. If you find something, get him to his doctor today. Family doctors can miss this type of cancer because it is so rare. They can also misdiagnose the cancer because there may be few or no symptoms.

As I've said, this is a rare cancer but you need to find out exactly what is going on with him. It needs to be checked out, just to be sure.

I didn't listen to my son when he was complaining about similar symptoms. When he was finally diagnosed he was already a stage IV.

He might be lactose intolerant, in other words he may be sensitive to dairy products, like milk, chocolate and cheese. If he uses these things , stop it to see what happens. Is he gassy? Does he have diarrhea or loose bowels?, go in and check for yourself when you are home with him and he uses the bathroom. Is his stomach bloated? What does he eat at home, make out a list and include all the stuff he eats in school and elsewhere. Take him to a gastroenterologist with this info if after elimination of the milk, chocolate and cheese, there is no change. I'm sure it's probably something with his diet. I hope he feels better soon.

He could be lactose intolerant to dairy products. That will sometimes cause a tummy ache in that area with cramping and sometimes loose stools. You should look at the stools also to see if you see blood, mucous, or if they are foul smelling, green and foamy. These are an indication that there is something wrong. Stress at school could cause this, but usually it will be in the morning because of the apprehension of going to school. If you think back you will realize that this has been going on for longer than you may have realized.

Has he had weight loss? Does his breath smell sweet? Has he had a general loss of appetite? Does he get real lethargic? If these are some of his symptoms, have him checked for Diabetes. My daughter had all of these symptoms, plus the stomach pain. She was diagnosed when she was 12.

I had taken her to a doctor on a Friday and she diagnosed a stomach flu. On Sunday, my daughter was admitted into the hospital suffering from diabetes. So switching doctors is probably a good idea. At least get more than one opinion.

could be stress related but bottom line find a doctor that will TALK to you and answer all your questions.
could possible be as simple as a minor food allergy or an undiagnosed hernia---I am not a doctor so I don't know but keep looking for answers. constant consistent pain is not normal--however if the pain ONLY keeps him from punishment or eating a food he doesn't like or delays his bedtime I would be suspicious.
