You will get a better picture on a 1080i TV than on a 480p. 1080i is true HD, 480p has been called "extended definition". Do not expect to see 1080 lines on a tube TV. There is no consumer-level tube set that can resolve that well. None will do 720p; for those stations that broadcast that way, the set converts to 1080i. In general, progressive scan is better for sports or other fast action, especially video games, You may actually find that while 1080i is sharper, the 480p set will have fewer artifacts (mainly jaggies on moving edges). For best results you should have a 720p or 1080p TV for the PS3.

1080i is far superior to 480p, I don't really know what those other people were talking about. 1080i is considered HDTV, while 480p isn't.

MM neither for best results a 1080p would be a true companion piece for your PS 3 720 is a step up from 480 and 1080p is a step up from 720p and 1080i. i bought a 1080p for my ps3 idsuggest waiting till the new year prices will drop. Not only that since to best picture will be through the HMDI port there is another reason to upgrade.

1080 i is THE PREFERRED PURCHASE right now.....

Don't invest your money in anything LESS.....

There is no Speed difference in 480i and 1080i....both run at 30 frames a second.....but INTERLACED is better for ACTION/SPEED and Progressive is better for those "slow" shows.
