As far as the simple semantics of the issue, I believe "male nurse" is a much more seixst term than "police woman." Because the term "nurse" does not necessarily imply either man or woman, therefore, there is no need to clarify the sex of the nurse. However, since "police man" is a common term used to identify a male police officer, then there is nothing sexist to me to use the term "police woman" to identify a female officer.

I think a police woman is sexier. I can't help but think of a male nurse as being a feminine man. I know that male nurses can be sexy but it's not the first thing that comes to my mind.
