I am able to get back to sleep, but I know the interruption can't be good.

I am in my twenties, but have had this problem as long as I can remember.

Most stimuli do not seem to wake me more easily than they do the average person, but I could be wrong about that.

Try going to the bathroom before going to bed and try not drinking any liquids about an hour before bedtime.

My guess is that this is a learned behavior. That you never out grew. Your parents most likely got you up at the same time every night. To potty. To prevent a wet bed. Most parents do this for a length of time during training. Most parents don't understand how important it is to change the time. Getting up once a night. Is not a problem as long as you get back to sleep right away.
