Well the most common response would be, "Thank you!." However, you can always try something witty or different like, "I appreciate your kind words , but what is it that you find appealing about me?" "Even this total package is still missing something..... You!" You could even go as far as to compliment them on something; their hair, eyes, or fashion sense, or even their beauteous appearance.
I have met many people that have hot, rocking bodies and very pretty faces but are actually very ugly people. I have to ask, are the compliments sincere or are they "fishing" for something more? Maybe you can use the compliment as a conversation booster.

Well. The answer depends on who the person complementing is.
1. if you dont know the person who is giving you the complement and want to end it right there just smile.
2. if he is known to you then say thank you.
3. if he is a buddy then the you can jokingly say "so what's new" .
4. If the guy interests you and you want to make out with him the you can smile say " Thank you very much so do you"

I've had guys tell me that they hate it when I disagree with what they're saying because they don't just say things like that to any girl. My guy friends told me that when they say you are pretty and that you have a great personality, a simple "thank you" would be the best answer instead of trying to be humble and deny it.

Well when a guy usually compliments on me like that I'll say something like "awww why thank you thats really sweet of you to say" dont ever decline the compliment because it takes a lot of guts for some people and you could really hurt his feelings.
Oh and you can always compliment them back, its like the perfect time to, kinda like an excuse :)

You say thank you and then let the conversation go from there. Woman can tell mostly anything we want to know from men with in the first 5 minutes of the conversation.

Well since you are asking this question, I'd suggest being honest and say something like...
"that may be true, but I have no social skills and I'm too stupid to know how to respond. But at least I have looks to carry me through life."
Does that help??

People usually have a reason for buttering up someone
It may or may not be honest.
Just say what you feel at the time...Don't put yourself on the
spot looking for just the right answer...
Whatever you feel, just say..it'll be fine.

Smile and say "Thank you".
Don't try to argue or explain.
Gracefully taking a complement is very charming.

Say "Thank you, that's very kind of you to say." And then it's always nice to compliment them about something too...
