Even when on the computer, driving somewhere in the car, I snack. How do I get myself to stop?

So why are you bored? Do you have an oral fixation, or do you need to keep your hands busy? May be figure that out and try to fix that. Then start keeping yourself busy, while snacking on healthy foods such as vegetables, fruit, hand full of nuts, etc.

Not necessarily a cure-all, but a good idea I've heard suggested is to drink a protein shake. Hunger is satisfied without a resulting blood sugar crash which would lead to more snacking. Also, a scoop of protein in water is usually just over 100 calories.

Blood sugar probably does play a big part in your snacking whether you actually feel hungry or not. There are a lot of ways to help stabilize your blood sugar, such as consuming a lot of fiber or using a fish oil supplement.

Compulsively drinking water instead of compulsively snacking might help also.

Change the snack! A bag of cucumber slices or carrot sticks. I always remind myself of the consequences of snacking on bad foods. Your blood sugar levels probably crash and you crave everything. Eating more protein helps and keeping your eye on the goal. What if you didn't snack and you exercised EVERY day for the last 6 months....Now look to the next 6 months. Try it! You will open your eyes one day in 6 months and be shocked...but only if you take the time and choose veggies over anything else "snacky"

I'm like that too. I've found that always having chewing gum helps. But then after a while I get a headache from the gum. So then I decided to try mints and the like.

Or if that doesn't work, just try going cold turkey. Force yourself to not snack. Or, think of something really disgusting and try to ruin your appetite. Hah.

I know that there are some supplements that you can buy that reduce your appetite. They aren't very healthy though.

Good luck!

There's nothing wrong with snacking but if you are going to snack frequently then just make sure what you choose to snack on is something nutritional and be sure to surround yourself with these things when your at your computer or in the car. Just replace what your snacking on (if bad) with a healthy alternative, then you wont have to worry about feeling bad when you do.

you can snack. snacking is good for you. but not too much junk food. just fruits and veggies are actually healthy for you.

if you are snacking on JUNK FOOD and you need to quit... well heres the thing. you cant snack on something if you dont have something to snack on. so throw away all your junk food or at least stop buying them during your trip to the groceries.

good luck.

If you are going to snack when you're bored, snack on things that are fat-free, or that don't have any calories. For instance, sip on some fat-free green tea. This will give you something to snack on, as well as give a boost to your metabolism.

Check out www.hufa.org, the low blood sugar link. That may begin to explain why you snack, and what to do about confirming it.
