Alright let me explain how this works first. When your computer is booting up it is configured to boot in a certain manner. In most PC's it will first check the floppy drive , if there is no boot device in there (such as a bootdisk) it will then check the cd-rom , and then the HD. The Windows 2000 CD is a self boot CD, so it seems that your computer is booting from the HD before the CD. So you need to change the boot order!

Ok , what you need to do is:

1. Put the Windows 2000 CD in the cd-rom drive

2. When your computer first starts it should say something like press delete to enter setup/BIOS. (It may be the delete key or something like f2 depending on your system) either way you need to hit this key

3. Should bring you to a screen that has a bunch of info about your system. In there you need to look for something that says "boot order" or something of this sort. When you do find it you need to set it so it boots from CD before your HD.

4. Save the settings and exit. And the next time your PC boots , it should load right off the CD.

Thats it!

You can install two operating systems on one hard disk, the best way to do this is is to use a boot manager like BootMagic (Be very cautious if you use BootMagic). Then there will not be any conflict between the two systems. You can also use Norton partition manager to install two operating systems on one hard disk. But then, you'll need to start partition manager at boot if you want to choose which operating system you want to startup. I don't know much about Windows 7, but if you were installing Vista and XP, then the procedure for installation (without partition managers) is fairly simple. First you have XP, then you can install Vista. The Vista boot manager will give you an option at startup either to start XP or Vista. They co-exist well. Provided they are installed on separate logical or primary drives.

Place your system disk into the disk drive. Once the disk is in the drawer turn the system off, power everything down. Wait 10 seconds and turn the power back on, the system should reboot from the disk. At some point it will ask you if you wish to reinstall the operating system just say yes

The Win 2000 you about to install is an Operating System. To install that OS u must create a System Disk (floppy disk) with same version.
"On" your pc... System disk must insert on drive "A"
Then insert your Win 2000 on your disk drive
on Dos shift to designated drive
and type> setup

You have to go into setup to make sure the computer will try to boot off the 2000 CD. The computer should say to hit esc or del or F2 or something to enter setup when you power it up. Then you just have to look around till you find the boot order. 2000 is really a bear compared to XP. It won't have any of the drivers for your hardware and isn't the friendliest OS in the world.

Are you sure that it is an install disk. Of course there is no operating system if you trying to install one. Try reformating your hard drive if you can.

Your computer is not booting from CD drive, it goes dirctly to your C drive, and finds no OS, and gives you that error.
you have to get to the setup page of BIOS in your PC. You can notmally do that by pressing F2 or F1 or F10 ( it depends on your PC model and make)
You need to go to the BIOS of your computer, under Boot Order or Boot Sequence, chage the order of your first 3 boot device as follow:
1 Floppy drive
2 CD ROM/DVD
3 Local Hard drive
