And which translation, edition, etc. Thanks.

The LORD is a jealous God, filled with vengeance and wrath. He takes revenge on all who oppose him and furiously destroys his enemies! The LORD is slow to get angry, but his power is great, and he never lets the guilty go unpunished. He displays his power in the whirlwind and the storm. The billowing clouds are the dust beneath his feet. At his command the oceans and rivers dry up, the lush pastures of Bashan and Carmel fade, and the green forests of Lebanon wilt. In his presence the mountains quake, and the hills melt away; the earth trembles, and its people are destroyed. Who can stand before his fierce anger? Who can survive his burning fury? His rage blazes forth like fire, and the mountains crumble to dust in his presence. The LORD is good. When trouble comes, he is a strong refuge. And he knows everyone who trusts in him. But he sweeps away his enemies in an overwhelming flood. He pursues his foes into the darkness of night.

eduardwhatever: It OBVIOUSLY is a posting in reply to an equally ridiculous posting by a creationist. Get over yourself, hon. Damn, I'd take for you for a stupid believer, seeing as how you could miss a MACK TRUCK.

How about this? Since NOT every atheist is a scientist, I don't expect every Christian to know EVERY chapter and verse.

EDIT: I was trying to be ironic! And to address a message to those who will also demand that atheists know all about science. My point was "You (I mean believers) are not supposed to know every chapter and verse by heart. So how on earth can you expect US to know everything about science?"

It's Nahum chapter 1 and the verse actually reads:

"God is jealous, and the LORD revengeth; the LORD revengeth, and is furious; the LORD will take vengeance on his adversaries, and he reserveth wrath for his enemies.

3 The LORD is slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked: the LORD hath his way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet.

4 He rebuketh the sea, and maketh it dry, and drieth up all the rivers: Bashan languisheth, and Carmel, and the flower of Lebanon languisheth.

5 The mountains quake at him, and the hills melt, and the earth is burned at his presence, yea, the world, and all that dwell therein.

6 Who can stand before his indignation? and who can abide in the fierceness of his anger? his fury is poured out like fire, and the rocks are thrown down by him.

7 The LORD is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him.

8 But with an overrunning flood he will make an utter end of the place thereof, and darkness shall pursue his enemies.

9 What do ye imagine against the LORD? he will make an utter end: affliction shall not rise up the second time.

10 For while they be folden together as thorns, and while they are drunken as drunkards, they shall be devoured as stubble fully dry.

11 There is one come out of thee, that imagineth evil against the LORD, a wicked counsellor.

12 Thus saith the LORD; Though they be quiet, and likewise many, yet thus shall they be cut down, when he shall pass through. Though I have afflicted thee, I will afflict thee no more.

13 For now will I break his yoke from off thee, and will burst thy bonds in sunder.

14 And the LORD hath given a commandment concerning thee, that no more of thy name be sown: out of the house of thy gods will I cut off the graven image and the molten image: I will make thy grave; for thou art vile.

15 Behold upon the mountains the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace! O Judah, keep thy solemn feasts, perform thy vows: for the wicked shall no more pass through thee; he is utterly cut off."

If I were you, I wouldn't rely on evilbiblequotes.com for reliable scripture.

Blessed Be

This verse is pretty enlightening to me. I've always heard this **** abput "my God's a jealous God?" but never in context.

I know the Christians are going to come for me, but after reading this verse (which I will look up to make sure it's accurate - sorry I don't believe something without researching it) - it cements my own feelings towards this God people love so much.

Quite honestly, if God is supposed to be all powerful and all knowing, why is he such a jealous, vengeful, angry entity? I mean if God created everything - why is he so insecure? And why does he exhibit these so called "sins" that he hypthetically does not like in humans? Hmmmmmmmmmm.

Wrath, destruction, rage, fierce anger? Aren't these traits of serial killers and Godforbid...dun...dun..dun...the devil?

LMAO! I feel so sorry for religious folks - because you all have been duped by some very old texts (that have been changed over time) that are nothing more than greek mythology!

LOL

Atheists don't have to be scientists as LONG as they stay away from asking Christians for PROOF.

If ATHEISTS can't provide PROOF, ABSOLUTE PROOF, then you can't expect Christians to do the same!

If Atheists can say how do you believe in the Mumbo Jumbo we can say the SAME THINGS BACK.

That's all.

I've heard a few Atheists here say

I was born religious, I grew up, I started reading, I started thinking and I found I couldn't continue buying into that stuff.

That's an ACCEPTABLE answer. He's not asking for proof, he not stating proofs. He's expressing a personal opinoin.

We can live with that.

He's not saying WE'RE WRONG HE'S RIGHT

He's saying YOU made a choice I made a choice MY choice is different from yours.

We have minimal problems with that!

I mean we may feel for his soul, but that's about the extent of it.

He ain't challenging us to a duel.

He aint sparing with us.

You walk funny, but you aren't. I'm a Christian. I don't know where you get every atheist is expected to be a scientist, they aren't. Have you seen a Bible? They are pretty thick, unless you have a photographic memory, you aren't gonna remember every scripture. As for the translation, edition, etc. Get over your self. You are arrogant, I don't get the point of this NON-question. Oh yes, the words immature, and smartelic come to mind.

Nahum 1:2-8
I had to look it up, I've only been a Christian for 60 years, I haven't had the time to learn every reference in the Bible, Did you know there are 31,143 verses in the Bible, it would take a little while to remember them all.
I'm guessing you are using the NIV, but that is just a guess.

Sorry - I'm the worse Roman Catholic here, I can't remember the last time I looked at my bible - let alone memorized a passage.
I rarely think people are anything, until told what they want me to know.
Many scientists are deeply Christian, and well known. Many atheist could teach bible courses, so well do they know the history and verses of the bible.
I'm sure someone can site this verse, quite easily.

This is not really a fair challenge since we have commentaries, concordance and other aides to assist us in the bible. Nahum first chapter is the answer. Verse starts on 2........

Here's a better verse:

The Rider on the White Horse
11I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and makes war. 12His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns. He has a name written on him that no one knows but he himself. 13He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God. 14The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean. 15Out of his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. "He will rule them with an iron scepter."[a] He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty. 16On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written:
KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.

Rev. 19:11-16

That's my Jesus, bloody and with a tatoo.
