The only way is to do sit ups or crunches. Start by doing 3 sets of 5 and then each day increase till you are doing 3 sets of 25. If you do these every day I assure you that the excess from your waist and belly will be gone.

Abs are mostly genetics and bodyfat percentage. It's true and I don't understand why so many people are under the impression that we can pick and choose where bodyfat will be lost from. Some people have to be at a very low bodyfat percentage to show abs. Some can barely have a six-pack at even at an unhealthily low percentage of bodyfat. Another may suddenly start to show abs after dropping from 10 to 9 percent bodyfat.
One professional bodybuilder was considered by some to have the best abs on the planet while doing zero ab work. (This was Dexter Jackson when he competed at a lower weight for those who wonder).
That's not to say don't do ab work, just that it's not really a spot reducer. And I believe that many of today's top trainers (Charles Pouliquin for instance) are not really impressed with standard crunches preferring instead various leg lifts, Swiss ball crunches, and so forth.

If you need to lose weight, you cannot choose where the fat will reduce, your weight loss will most likely be general. If you need to tighten up the waistline, crunches always work. Schwartzenegger had such a small waist because he did waist twists, learn from the best!
