My husband is named after his father, therefore, he is John Doe, Jr. Father dead, is it ok to drop the junior

well, you don't have to go by the junior, that's your choice, but he is still junior, even if the senior is dead. Just because he died, doesn't mean that your name changes, and it doesn't mean that he never existed. If your writing stuff on legal forms, keep the junior. You don't have to tell people your name is John Doe Jr., it's really up to you.

Yes it is, Its by choice. I was actually the 3rd which I no longer use due to the same situation. There's no right or wrong as i said it's more of a personal preference. Some people keep it because they feel it would be somehow disrespectful to their father etc. My father was Jr and i think he wanted to take me out so he could get rid of it lol.

I wouldn't; I recently discovered "Jr." is legally part of one's name. You would need to legally change it if you wanted to. You don't need to include the "Jr." in everything though, just legal matters (i.e. writing checks)
