What does that mean? Is she more than a friend to you? Anyways, put the blame on your mom's head for now so that she does not feel that you are betraying her but try to get the message across clearly that you value him as a friend but as you do not have establishment of your own, you cannot support for her long. At least until you are dependent on your mom. Tell her that you were talking about a possibility and what could have been better and it would have been more rational if she had discussed this with you before running away, because you cannot think of any living arrangements for her in such a short time. Ask her what if she talks to her parents on a phone and tell them that she was hurt because of something that happened in her family (there must be something which made her run away on such a trivial statement as that) and that she is sorry. She just wants to tell them that she is safe and sound and in a friend's house right now. Or your mom can inform them that their daughter is in her house and is quite safe. They will probably come to get her and she just jave to play sorry and stupid (which she probably is) and have to make do with that.

I think you should tell your friend in a way of not hurting her feelings. Tell her you want her closer, but not living together, cause it is hard on your mother. Your mother has to take care of another person in the household, and thats more money she spends.

this is very sad. If she run away because of an unfortunate comment... she does not seem a very, very deep friend...
She run away because... you're not exactly the kind of friend she wants. What she wants, she's the only one to know.
If you know where she is, just send a note/word to say that you're sorry she felt offended.
You cann't take the comment back.
She might come back... give her time to re-consider her friendship...

You need to explain what you meant by being closer!! She must have misinterpreted what you meant. If you are a good friend you will explain to her that living with you is not what you wanted. Be honest because a good friendship depends on it.

Have sympathy and extend your love for her, bear with her innocence and let her understanding improve about you.
Privately (not known to your friend as she needs some sort of check) pacify your mother and get her concern.

your friend seems to be very emotinal and stupid. tell her politely that what you ment by being close is to be better friend not that she should come and live with you. and what bout her parents? havent they come to take her back?
